
26 January 2010 | “Unburied Memories,” an exhibition of photographs and documents of the participation of Macedonians from the Aegean part of Macedonia in the Second World War and the Greek Civil War is on display until February 28 at the Museum of Macedonia.
Intended to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Civil War in Greece, the exhibition, on 35 boards, is aimed at presenting the historical continuity of the Macedonians in the Aegean part of Macedonia and their founding of the military and political formation in the Second World War between 1941 and 1945 and the Civil War in Greece between 1946 and 1949, with a platform for joint struggle of the Macedonian and Greek people in the Civil War of Greece in 1949 for their national and social liberation, according to Museum’s official information.
A catalogue in Macedonian and English has been printed in 1,000 copies, intended to be sent to the European Parliament and to other international institutions for human rights protection, according to the culture.in.mk website.
In addition to photos and documents on military actions, other items in the exhibition include advertising materials, newspapers, brochures and magazines that aimed at spreading the Macedonian language and ethnological displays, clothes and objects.
The focal point of the exhibition is the exodus of over 20,000 Macedonian and Greek children and the humanitarian campaign to save and accommodate the children in Macedonia, former Yugoslavia and in Eastern European countries.
