Rebuttal to the IGenea DNA test

Although I believe the evidence in support of the claims of Macedonians being natives in the Eastern Mediterannean have been established beyond a doubt, I find this new DNA test (in part) suspect.

First, I take issue with the ethnic composition. How in the world any DNA test can confirm your ethnic composition or national "blood" is beyond me. It is one thing to argue in broad terms, such as migrations and similarities in haplogroup clusters; it is another, however, to claim Macedonians are 20% Germanic. Nonesense.

Second, how the reseachers arrived at the conclusion that Greek is 12% Slavic is beyond me, since Slavic is only a language and not an ethnicty or country. To suggest that Greece (and this is parts of Greece, excluding the islands and Greek Macedonia) is 12% R1a is acceptable, but this doesn't mean Greece is 12% Slavic. What is stricking about this is that Greece is said to be 20% Slavic and yet 12%in R1a. R1a is a haplogroup that happens to be high in people who speak a Slavic language, esp. in the north (east and west).

As for Macedonians, the study suggests that Macedonians are 15% Slavic and yet 20% R1a--this doesn't make sense.

Third, how the researchers measured Phoenician blood sample is beyond me.

Macedonians and Greeks must be cautious of this DNA test. There exist better tests.

I must admit, my eyes glaze over when I read this DNA stuff.
But I enjoy reading the consistent conclusions about the fact that the Macedonians have been there for a very long time.
And I agree with you about the slavic element having nothing to do with an ethnicity or country.

What other tests do you feel are better?

They should do a DNA test on Gruevski and the Hunza king.

Wow you're so funny Royal Painintheass.

They should do one on Kosta's mum and Mr Nick Sarcockzy.

whichever way you look at the dna tests to date, all of them have come to the same conclusions about the macedonian of today, that we are one of if not the oldest mediterranian people in europe. thats why our neo hellenic tinkaci dont pay much attention or give any credit to the results.
now imagine if the results were the opposite and supported their view of the balkans, gee they would have been taking out full page adds in every newspaper in the world and every pro greek politicians would have been proclaiming it from the roof tops in every parliament they belonged too.

so can we cut the crap neo hellens and just accept, you are all dupes of a bullshit propaganda from infancy till death.

i also find it laughbale that my blood relatives who are grkomani are totally accepted as hellenes, while i am a slav skopian interloper. same dna but different nations and different rights what a joke.

I agree, it would be interesting.
They should also do it to the imported Christians from Turkey who presently reside in what previously referred to as Northern Greece. And when the results come back, we should ask "WTF is Macedonian on you?"

I think the 2.5 million Greek Macedonians in Greek Macedonia will have a common trait on them.

Man I sure do love your smartass, arrogant little comment Royal Asshole. Yes indeed those people will have a common trait -- the common trait of being in the area for less than a hundred years and therefore living on someone else's land.

Someone else's land or not, dna or dna not, the cold hard fact remains that 2.5 million people self identify as Greek Macedonians in Greek Macedonia.
Nothing wrong with that, is there sunshine?

                    May the Greek Macedonians prosper.
May the Macedonians prosper by a little bit more as well.

                      Common to turks?
You want Macedonia? Come and take it from my blood!

You mean the descendants of Turkish settlers?

How can people not from Macedonia, and not of Macedonia, who have no history in the region, display none of the Macedonian customs, rituals and rites, and not even speak the native langauge, now be rightfully called "Macedonians"?
