Typically this attitude is formulated by one influential family member (whose Greek identity is questionable) who has more connections with clergy etc. If anyone understates the significance of the church and its strategy to eradicate us Macedonians, I will slap them. It is the most evil act imaginable and continues to this very day.

These people who are complacent about their identity have already lost it. It can be taken back but it is a huge leap to get back there.

Unfortunately, too many families have been split as a result of these issues. Whilst seemingly trivial in the grand scheme, it makes life unbearable for many. In this case Boge, would you advocate abandoning those family members? In my case, I would.

Boge,

Don't count them as lost souls just yet. Everything can change and in a very short period.
Once upon a time, here in Australia the VAST majority of Macedonians originating from what is today the Republic of Macedonia would refer to themselves as Yugoslavs. We could have said they are all a lost cause.

However, it took a few dedicated and organised groups of people their best efforts to get rid of this and they managed to do so within a period of 10 years.

Today, the number of Macedonians who refer to themselves as Yugoslavs is almost non-existent.

Now, despite the so-called 'Grkomani' who refer to themselves as pure Greeks and whatnot, in every one of their families they have relatives who are the self-conscious ethnic Macedonians and more than that, even the Grkomani know who 'their own' people are, they all (some more than others) still know they are different to the Magiri/Prosfygi and the Greeks from the south and they always feel closer to their own (grkomani with grkomani) and there is quite a lot in all of that to build upon and use as a basis for the re-awakening of the Macedonian people.

Listen to this one guys, you'll die of laughter.
Through a friend I know this family from Northern Greece, here in Toronto.
The parents claim to be Greek, yet their children call their grandmother yiayia and their Grandfather dedo.
The son is a diehard Greek- Greek this, Greek that etc
His sister though, is a pure Macedonian and is against anything Greek.
Now thats some serious confusion....
Believe you me spartan, there are lots of families like that in Toronto, including cousins of mine that are half Macedonian(Egej) half Greek(Spartan), who called their Paternal Grandparents Baba/Dedo, but their kids call their parents yiayia/papou even thou they are married to "manja cakes" Another example is calling one uncle Vujche and the other Theo even thou they are both brothers
The familiy you described is pure Macedonian, seems like the sister is the only one with her head screwed on right

And thats why Rogi they tend to marry amongst each other
A grkoman father has a lot harder time giving up his daughter to a greek, than he would if his son was to marry a greek, it almost seems as some kind of conquest or of finally making the family pure greek

sad but true the plight of the grkomani, i used to hate the motherfuckers but seeing what has panned out these past 40 years makes me pity them. rogi is right all is not lost the greek badge worn with such pride can easily be discarded and then spat upon. i have witnessed that journey in some of my relatives.

spartan that post of yours is funny man but also tragic, how do you as a person whose identity never been questioned relate to the divided ones.

I agree with you that it is tragic as well, and it must be pretty confusing to grow up as a "divided one" as you put it. Difficult to relate to unless you've lived it I would think.

Dumb Macedonians = Grkomani
Sad. Purely sad.

It is used in the following way, "Zhimi maika, jas ne bev tamu" = "I swear by my mother, I wasn't there". It is a common Macedonian expression which is often used in jest as well as in sincere circumstances, hence the irony of Australian people that grew up thinking they had 'Greek' friends and learned 'Greek' words from them, only to learn that it is not Greek, but Macedonian.

Many Grkomani are sick.
