Default Macedonian Coat of Arms from 1741!

Source: "Stemmatographia" by Hristofor Zhefarovich, Vienna, 1741.

Here is a short resume of Hristofor, it is taken from Wikipedia:

Quote:
Born in the end of the 17th century, Zhefarovich descended from a priestly family from Dojran in Ottoman Empire, (present-day Republic of Macedonia) and became a monk himself. As a highly-educated and well-learned vagrant monk he painted and traded with books, icons and church plate. He spent some time in the St. Naum Monastery in Ohrid. His name was first mentioned in Belgrade in 1734, when he was well-known as a good painter. His first well-preserved work are the frescoes in the churches of the Bođani Monastery in Bačka (part of Vojvodina, today in Serbia) from 1737 and the Šikloš Monastery from 1739. He was exclusively engaged in copper engraving and book illustration after 1740.
Interesting.

Here is the Macedonian coat of arms throughout the centuries:
(The oldest one found is from the year 1340)

A few close ups:

From the original 'Stemmatographia' by Pavao Ritter Vitezović, published 1701 (should be noted that Epirus, Crete and Thessaly have their own seperate entries):

Translates to something along the lines of "Paint over the gold lion with trees was once a great honour. The crown has been deprived with a great Turkish lion: Whither went off in honour of the whole....."

Translates to something along the lines of "Lion on a field of gold, red and violet....Some people are of the opinion of Greece.......Epirus before the time of Alexander........After Hercules erected Bucaphelus........The kings of the red are for Macedonia, who preserved their property upon the nobles of the province..."

And from the 1741 version:
