Terror In Macedonia, Time Magazine, 1945!

    THE BALKANS: Terror In Macedonia
    Monday, Jul. 16, 1945

Premier Marshal Tito last week charged that Greek forces had fired across the Yugoslav frontier in an effort "to provoke us." Thousands of Macedonians, he said, had escaped into Yugoslavia to escape Greek terrorism. "Our soldiers," Tito added, "have not replied with a single shot." At the same time Moscow, which last week reported similar atrocities from Macedonia, announced that the National Front Government of Federal Macedonia had protested to the Yugoslav Government that "fascist" Greek organizations, supported by units of the Greek Army, were carrying on a reign of terror. The Macedonian organization, said Tass, official Russian news agency, described the terror as comparable in savagery to "the most horrible in the times of Turkish enslavement."

To similar reports a week ago Greek cabinet members replied: "Malicious propaganda. . . ."

Were the Greeks clearing Macedonia of everyone who is not a Greek citizen? Or was the Government of Marshal Tito, which long ago included part of Macedonia in its plans for a federated Yugoslavia, preparing to carry out its plans? It was still too soon to say. But there was little doubt that terror of one kind or another was sweeping Macedonia.

Nice find Daskalot. We could probably begin putting a book together on the reign of Greek terror and the ethnic cleansing of Macedonians over the last century. The whole thing was just too systematic, intense and extensive to be anything else.

Great find - these mythical Macedonians are popping up all over the place- lol!

        Pellister
That would be a book worth writing and publishing!
On Delchev's sarcophagus you can read the following inscription: "We swear the future generations to bury these sacred bones in the capital of Independent Macedonia. August 1923 Illinden"

What part put you in stitches?

Zervas was not a leftist, so obviously the article got that part wrong, or was it deliberate (communism was a dirty word and they were blamed for everything).

But the part about "Macedonians" being terrorized Corresponds with the other articles therefor they obviously got that correct.

Oh was it the Macedonians being terrorised by the Nazi sympathizer called "Zervas" what you found funny?

                Great find Sekirani

Obviously the truth hit a raw nerve with AriadniTr.
But i don't think it was the fact that "Greeks" terrorized "Macedonians" that troubled AriadniTr, far from it, the fascist would be punching the air.

But its the fact that there was a distinction between "Greeks" and "Macedonians" that troubles him. Or is it that there is no mention of "greekmacedonians".

Something is definitly wrong with this article. And I couldnt care less about the macedonian terminology being used. I mean these are Americans we are talking about here. They are probably still searching for WMD in the deserts of Iraq.

What raised a flag to me is the mentioning of Greeks firing into the Yugoslavian borders to "provoke" them. Why on earth would we want to provoke one of the biggest land armies on the European continent at the time ?! Makes no sense at all.

Yes the same Americans that armed Fascist greece and used napalms on Macedonian woman and children.

What is wrong with you greeks, you love back stabbing friends.

By the way, why weren't the ethnic "greekMacedonians" mentioned anywhere? were they around back then? who's side were they on?

The same reason why greece of today provoke its neighbors mainly the "biggest land armies" called Turkey. Why, because just like you brats had big brother USA backing you back then, you feel brave today thinking EU will do your dirty work if you get your arss kicked.

Those same Americans were there on your behalf to assure the artificial borders of Greece. Little is wrong with the article, and it does correspond to other reports from the time regarding the brutality of Greeks towards Macedonians.

And we could care less if you care or not about the Macedonian terminology. But you will respect it.

Little is wrong ?? And I suppose you know this as a matter of fact ?

Artificial borders ? and who disrespected Macedonian terminology for you to warrant such an accusation to me ? Was it the small case " m " that got you all worked up ? My shift key was stuck at the time. Is that ok ?
