It basically set the tone for all Western thought, the idea of civilization, which created ideas of progression and regression, of enlightened and barbarian. Europe thought the ancient Greeks were enlightened, and as Risto Stefov pointed out in his latest paper; in 1830 they saw everything that was natural about Modern Greece as "a taint" - so they removed everything, everything Oriental, Ottoman, Christian Macedonian, Albanian ... etc. -
