What aspect of modern Greek culture is actually 'Greek'

NATIONAL HEROES - Multicultural (most of modern Greece's national heros are on record as being a mixture of Albanians, Vlachs, English, Germans, Grkoman and many others).

ROYAL FAMILY - German (Descended from the royal house of Bavaria).

NATIONAL FLAG- German (based on various old versions of the flag of Bavaria).

NATIONAL ANTHEM - Italian (written by Niccoló Calichiopulo Manzaro, an Italian resident living in Corfu).

NATIONAL DRESS - Albanian (we know where the Fustanella comes from right).

NATIONAL MUSIC - Turkish (Buzukglu, Rembetiku are forms of Anatolian peasant music).

NATIONAL CUISINE - Turkish (Doner Kebab, Tzatziki, Taramasalat, Baklava etc, etc, etc).

    and finally...

NATIONAL GREEK-'MACEDONIAN' HEROS - Multicultural (out of the most well known of modern Greece's self proclaimed Greek-'Macedonian' hero's, one was born in France (Pavlos Melas), another was born in Lesbos (Germanos Karavangelis) and the other was born in Bursa, north eastern Turkey (Manolis Andronikos).

Excellent points. If we are to be realistic, they might even have ignored their own distinct culture and preferred a "best-of" in order to be more appealing to the early adopters.

The fustanella is an interesting point. The historians describe the Arnauts as fabulous looking military men. Why not pick a different culture's uniform to look "fabulous"?

What a shame they cannot be more honest with themselves.

This is a good list. It's unfortunate for the modern "greek" that they messed with the Macedonians. They should've realized that it was only a matter of time before we did extensive research into their most recent history and dig out the skeletons in their closet.
