Unfortunately in the Wester world that I am familiar with a persons position lends them authority so people like Professor Kramer may be extremely proficient in her chosen field but it is her position that gets media attention.

Macedonia needs all people who have achieved any position of high standing to be lending their hand and speaking for Macedonia. I know we are all busy but such is life that much is expected from those who have much…ie power position credibility. I hope all such people will consider what is at stake…ie our name and identity…and make whatever extra effort they can.

The UMD promoting her and any other who can help cannot be a band thing. I would hope that any differences of opinion between others and the UMD can be put aside temporally when other issues like Professor Kramer are being actioned so that we…the Macedonians collectively…can get the best benefit from those actions.

Well I for one watch very closely who and what you choose to support ie. Speakers at the Global Conference and those that are UMD friendly. If Crvenkovski says something positive next week be my guest and back him as well.

You know the Macedonian Film Festival in Toronto should be posting this not the UMD unless ..

Meto, did the UMD have anything to do with setting up this visit? If so, is it on your website? Why don't you do the SMART thing and quickly post 2 articles on your website regarding ..

Macedonian Film Festival Toronto
Macedonian Film Festival Australia

The MOC can promote themselves and you need a priority check asap.

If you click on the events calendar on the UMD website you will notice we had the Toronto and Melbourne festivals up on our sites. We also promoted on the UMD facebook profile wall extensively in the last few weeks. We hope to have pieces on the festivals in the next issue of UMD Voice.

UMD has an excellent relationship with Congressman Dan Maffei and the Macedonian-American community in his district. UMD greatly appreciates the Congressman's support of Macedonia and issues concerning the Macedonian-American community in his district.

One of UMD's priorities is to advance U.S.-Macedonian relations.

I'll keep on this until I go blue in the face.

UMD is a non profit organizations that claims to represent the Macedonians living in Diaspora countries.

The United Macedonians of Canada represent Macedonian Canadians NOT the country of Macedonia. The Macedonian Orthodox Church in North America tries to meet the needs of the people living in North America and NOT the churches in Macedonia.

What is PERFECTLY CLEAR to everyone other then the UMD is that you fail to understand what your role is - diaspora. Now, look on your website and excluded everything that is really related to the needs of the Macedonians living in today what is known as Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania and Greece. After you do that then look for content relating to Macedonian CULTURE in Diaspora.

Your priority should be to advance Macedonian interests, not your own or those of the US.

UMD Denounces Albanian Government Census Practices

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) expressed its deep concern today over the decision of the Government of Albania to eliminate sections in its upcoming Census forms designated for declaring a person’s specific minority status. The original version of the draft Census form included selection options for all minorities in Albania, including Macedonians. Albania’s government agency responsible for the Census has removed these categories and, instead, has made available only the options of “Albanian” and “Other”.

UMD believes that this misconduct by the Government of Albania is just its most recent effort to deny Macedonian identifying citizens of Albania their basic human rights and, as such, to further assimilate them. UMD calls upon the Government of Albania to make every effort to respect the civil rights of their Macedonian and other minorities, and to abide by the principles outlined by the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, which it ratified in 1999. Furthermore, UMD calls upon the Government of Albania to cease all intimidation of students studying the Macedonian language (as well as their parents and teachers) in the Golo Brdo region (and elsewhere in Albania) and to offer access to Macedonian language instruction in the public school system. Finally, UMD asks Albania’s neighbors, as well as other countries with which Albania has relations, to hold Albania accountable for its mistreatment of the Macedonian minority in Albania.
