This is the problem where Albanian nationalists in Macedonia over the last 30+ years have instilled an attitude to not recognise Macedonian symbols and the anthem.

The problem should be treated at the root cause and this is Albanian politicians, so called Academics and other structures who for the last 30 years have normalised this behavior. (Macedonian politicians/Journalists etc are also to blame for turning a blind eye to this and not calling it out).
Agreed, always felt the biggest issue for Macedonian Albanians was their political representaiton, e.g. there are no moderate or compromising parties for Albanians, all their parties are run by radicals who desire nothing short of federalisation and future secession. And the majority of the Macedonian political representation are run by weak-willed fools who are all to happy to bend to these outrageous demands.

Wasted opportunities. Barring some miracle, another one currently in the process of being wasted. Right now, the world is watching Macedonia. What better opportunity to make a stand? But do we really expect players who were hugging Zaev upon departure to take the lead? Are we expecting positive action from spectators who wave enough northadonian ventilators to provide air conditioning for the whole arena? Like you point out, the passion is temporary (and misguided) and will not be capitalised. It will soon fade, then back to the kafana and complaining about life. I can only hope they prove such a negative statement wrong.
...the only hope is for a bottom up movement orchestrated by the people...or as the Americans like to say..."we the people..."
Given the so-called "leaders" in that country over the past 30 years, that seems to be the only way.

They knew that from the moment they signed up. No point in going halfway. If they're committed to the team then they should be committed to the country and its anthem. If they're not, then they should sit on the bench for the Albanian team or jeer at the Macedonian anthem along with their counterparts in Skadar.
This is the problem where Albanian nationalists in Macedonia over the last 30+ years have instilled an attitude to not recognise Macedonian symbols and the anthem.
The anthem appropriately recalls a period in history where notable revolutionaries led the struggle for a free and independent Macedonia. Most of them happened to be Macedonians and Vlachs. The notable Albanian leaders from that same period were against this cause. That is the reality, but it doesn't mean today's Albanians in Macedonia should despise the anthem. The cause of the abovementioned revolutionaries wasn't against the Albanians or Turks in general, it was against those elements who provided support to the oppressive Ottoman authorities. Even Elmas, one of the younger members of that squad, seems to understand this. The Macedonian Revolutionary Organisation often made overtures to peoples of all backgrounds and religions during their struggle against the Ottoman Empire. To suggest the anthem is anti-Albanian, anti-Turkish or whatever is disingenuous. The real gripe is the fact that the anthem is one of the few symbols left in the country that their nationalistic politicians and supporters haven't been able to penetrate in their quest of creating a bi-national quasi-state. They don't respect Macedonia.

Unfortunately, Macedonia lost again, but it was closer this time. They had some real chances to level the score. From here on, the possibility of progress in this tournament beyond the next game is almost non-existent. Perhaps they will have a decent showing against the Dutch. The rest is standard. Zaev referring to "North Macedonia" on social media regarding his tango with the Bulgars but avoiding the term altogether in messages regarding the Macedonian team at the Euros, because the idiot thinks he's so clever that nobody will notice the hypocrisy or the manipulative charade he is presenting before the people. None of the Albanians in the Macedonian team sang the anthem (again). Disrespecting the country they play for must be some type of trend, because the Albanians (and some others) in the Swiss team don't seem to be too keen about singing the Swiss anthem either. Pathetic.

Was a very entertaining game, unlucky not to draw. The Optus Sport stream also cut to scenes from the Geelong [Macedonia] Soccer Club in Australia, great to see no ventilators there and the Macedonians together singing 'Biser Balkanski' for everyone to see

A couple of days ago, UEFA openly ruled against Greek complaints stating that acronym MKD (or even FFM) is in accordance with the Prespa agreement and no further action will be taken. UEFA said that they don't want to get involved into politics, and besides, they refer to the country officially, as North Macedonia (and Football Federation of North Macedonia). Zaev gave the following statement, which is now being reported, 'willingly' contradicting UEFA:

Zoran Zaev assured Greece that the Macedonian national football team playing at the European championship represents “North Macedonia” and not Macedonia. Greek press pressed Zaev on the issue after Greece formally protested the fact that the Football Federation of Macedonia hasn’t changed its name and used the FFM abbreviation in the official team jerseys.

The whole of Europe knows that our football team represents “North Macedonia”. Even if the Federation is not a public entity, the national team is. It should be clear to all that this is the team of “North Macedonia”, regardless of the initials on the jersey. We raised the specific issue with the Federation and we will resolve it soon in accordance with the Prespa Treaty and UEFA traditions, Zaev promised.

He is in a long standing feud with FFM head Muamed Sejdini, who protested to the UEFA that Zaev is trying to replace him and seize the financial resources of the Federation. Sejdini said, and the Macedonian Foreign Ministry initially agreed, that because FFM does not take in public funds, it is not under obligation to use the imposed name “North Macedonia”.

                  English translation of below article.
                  https://derbi.mk/poraneshniot-golem-...LcgJTrlmrUd4W4

Jasir Asani as a product of the football school of Vardar was considered one of the greatest talents in our country and passed all youth categories in the national team of Macedonia, but when it came time to choose, he gave preference to Albania. The former Vardar player chose Albania after receiving a call from the youth team from this country while he was still playing in Vardar, but a few years later, he is ready to change his decision if he receives a call from Macedonia. The Macedonian national football team is making historic progress in every sense and that makes the national jersey of our country more attractive for players, especially for those who in the past decided to choose another team. Such is the case with Asani, who now in a conversation for the show "Euro Dribbling" admits that he would accept a call from Macedonia with open arms.

                  - I was really young while playing for Macedonia, and then came the invitation from Albania. Like every Albanian, I was excited about it and accepted the offer, every Albanian wants to play for the Albanian national team. However, now I will wait for a call from Macedonia and I will respect the offer if I receive such a thing. My family's wish is to be in Albania, but if the call from Macedonia comes first, I will think about it. "I have been in Partizani for four years now and the people from the Albanian Federation are not very friendly towards me, nobody looked at me," said Asani.
What a misleading article. It suggests that the success of the Macedonian national team is what is attractive to players like Asani when the latter himself states that he wants to play for Albania but he isn't getting attention from the Albanian football federation. Another reject from the Albanian team who wants exposure in international tournaments. Now he will consider playing for Macedonia. No thanks. There are enough mutes in the team who don't sing the anthem.

So, Macedonia was soundly beaten by the Dutch in their last game and so ends their time in Euro 2020. The first half of the game was probably one of the better periods of play that Macedonia had in the whole tournament. But it all fell over in the second half. For what it's worth, it was a decent effort and should be treated as a learning experience for future tournaments. No point in mentioning it (nor was it a surprise), but everybody aside from the Albanians in the team sang the anthem. The leader of the northadonians also made an appearance. Recall what he said a few days ago:
The whole of Europe knows that our football team represents “North Macedonia”. Even if the Federation is not a public entity, the national team is. It should be clear to all that this is the team of “North Macedonia”, regardless of the initials on the jersey. We raised the specific issue with the Federation and we will resolve it soon in accordance with the Prespa Treaty and UEFA traditions, Zaev promised.
But here is what the traitor was posting on social media. Not a "severna" or "north" in sight. He is one of the most duplicitous and despicable people that Macedonia has ever produced. The fact that his doublespeak and fake "patriotism" isn't called out by anybody in the media is disgraceful. It is clear to anybody with common sense that he is riding the wave of Euro 2020. Once the tournament is over and the "passion" of the population has receded, he will proceed with his political destruction of Macedonian heritage. Much of the damage has already been done, all he needs is time to fully implement his northadonian vision for Macedonia.

Here is a clip from Optus Sport, where the Croat-Australian David Davutovic visited with the Macedonians in Melbourne prior to the match. Good on David for respecting Macedonians during his reporting and not being a corporate tool like some of the other hosts.

The round of 16 has had some unexpected surprises. The frogs are out, courtesy of a Swiss team in which players of Balkan heritage dominated. All of the French analysts and supporters had a pretentious attitude going into the match, as if they were entitled to win. They should probably be thankful they didn't, as the last time they won a major trophy the people in Paris 'celebrated' by rioting and looting. The Czechs knocked out the Dutch. The German coach was busy feeding from his nose whilst the English took the victory. Croatia did well to come back against Spain but lost in the end, they were never really in form during the tournament. And Ukraine beat Sweden to go on. Ukraine aren't even in the top 20 according to FIFA rankings, but they are experiencing a surge of patriotism in response to challenging times in their country, which can often help a team rise above its station. A similar situation with the Croats in 98. Macedonia, on the other hand, which is politically besieged from all sides, can't even get half of its players to sing the national anthem let alone respond by adequately channeling patriotism into their mentality.
