Onur, It seems like Turkey is going east now

Turkey has signed treaties with Syria,Lebanon and Jordan like a mini version of the EU, there will be an economic zone and free trade will be in place.

Ahmet Davitoglu is saying that Turkey is not steping away from its EU ambitions.

It is hard to find friends in the region, but Macedonia has a supporter in Turkey. I wouldn't go so far as to say 'military ally' but there you are right when you say that there are millions of Turks who can trace their living ancestry back to Macedonian territory.

Turkey willing to improve ties with Macedonia: Caglayan

Turkish State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan, who met Macedonia's Deputy Prime Minister Abdilaqim Ademi, said that Macedonia would become a shining star in the Balkans.

Caglayan and Ademi had a meeting in Ankara on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Caglayan said that Macedonia was a very important country for Turkey as the two countries had historical and cultural ties.

Turkey is willing to improve political, commercial and economic relation with Macedonia, Caglayan said, adding that he gave encouraging advises to Turkish firms for more investments in Macedonia.

Turkish companies' investments in this country reached $180 million and the size of their business totaled $500 million.

Caglayan said Turkish and Macedonian companies could cooperate especially in transportation and construction.

Ademi, on his part, described Turkey and Macedonia as very close countries more than two kins and he said that Turkish companies should regard Macedonia as a market with a population of 200 million, not a country that has a population of 2 million.

Macedonia should be seen as a gateway to expand to Europe, he said.

Ademi says Macedonia, Turkey need boost trade volume

Macedonian Deputy Premier Abdilaqim Ademi, who pays a visit to Turkey, on Tuesday met with head of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, Sinan Aygun.

Speaking to reporters at the meeting, Ademi said Turkey and Macedonia needed to boost trade volume, adding that the two countries should provide investors with necessary means to achieve that goal.

"Neither the Turkish nor the Macedonian governments are pleased with the current trade volume of 300 million USD. We have to increase it from millions to billions," Ademi said.

Aygun, on his part, said that Macedonia's developing economy offered lucrative trade opportunities for Turkish investors, underlining relatively low tax rates in the country.

"It is viable that Turkey can claim at least 1 billion USD out of Macedonia's 7.7 billion USD foreign trade volume," Aygun said.

Onur, Abdulahim Ademi is a former UCK Terrorist who is in the Government and his role is basically to implement the Ohrid Accord, however all he cares about is Albanian Interests he is using the Ohrid Accord in the name of all the minorities in Macedonia to push for Albanian interests no different to IVZ (Islamic Governing Body in Macedonia) is being run by Albanians and taking the rest of the Muslims who are not Albanian for a ride.

He was also the one in Tetovo when he told all the journalists at a press conference that they should learn Albanian and that he shouldnt have to speak Macedonian in official press conferences could you imagine a Turkish Vice Premier in Turkey speaking in Kurdish or another language and then saying that they should learn that language yet he is representing Turkey its a disgrace.

As for our relations with Turkey ofcourse they are very good, even President Ivanov said our relations are fantastic. Its just that this guy who went there Abdulahim Ademi is not exactly somebody who represents our interests, he only cares about his people and throws in the word Macedonia every noun and then.

Basically whenever something is built in Macedonia, for example the 2014 Skopje project he then comes out in the news and says the Albanians should have this too, he never cares about any other minority ie Turkish,Vlach,Serbian,Bosnian etc he is just using them as leverage to achieve his goals.

It seems that the Turks are very interested in investing in Macedonia, is there any reason why they keep investing and starting businesses?

Shishedzam and the cement plant have said they'll be investing for a few years now. Hopefully now they are serious.

XRVOL, They are saying that trade with Turkey should increase from 200 million to 1 billion euros over the next 2 years. The investments didnt go ahead for obvious reasons, now things are picking up again.

I know the owner of Shishedzam is a Turk from Macedonia, ever since the staklara closed down we've had to import all glass materials, its very important that they build the factory there.

Prolet, have you seen Alexander the Great airport lately? The Turks are on a roll there and the government thinks they will be finished before the planned October 2011.

Macedonia's trade gap is largely due to the importation of three things. They are: electricity, motor vehicles and oil.

Macedonia should focus on the reduction of these imports or to increase manufacturing to boost exports.

I see the construction of Cebren/Galishte hydro-plants and the wind farms, the gasification of Macedonia, and the public transport upgrades such as the new double-decker buses for JSP and the proposed tram network in Skopje to be crucial for the reduction of the above imports.

Thats great for Macedonia. Just one factory means there will be 100s of people who would work there. So, new business opportunities, less imports and lower unemployment rates for Macedonia.

Well Said Onur, its important for the Turkish Companies to come and invest in Macedonia. Its good for both countries to increase trade relations, lets hope we can reach the 1 billion euro mark.

XRVOL, If you recall TAV had a 6 month delay due to the Global Financial Crisis, the reason why they are working so intensively is because thats when they have to complete both projects. If they dont complete it on time without a good reason they have to pay heavy fines and could loose their license all together. Once the officially sign off with these companies they will be given time frames just like TAV.

Turkish Cement Co. Mulls Investing 200 Mln Euros
                              Friday, 29 October 2010

Macedonia is in talks with Turkish cement producer Cimsa that mulls over 200 million euro ($277 million) investment in the Balkan country, Skopje-based media reported on Friday.

Besides Turkish glassmaker Sisecam that plans to invest in Macedonia, the cement plant Cimsa is also analyzing the investment opportunities in the country, media reported.

It will take time but the days of using of the fk Greece using an economic embargo to cripple the Macedonian economy, and use it as a tool to blackmail and bully the Macedonians, will soon be over.

This is just a drop in the ocean in terms of what Turkey is intending to invest in the Macedonian Republic.

I've said it before, if we could get rid of a hundred thousand Albanians (legally), and replace them with Turks we would be much better off than we are right now.
