No Daskalot, having Greek passport is not a guarantee either. More than 9000 Turkish people of western Thrace has been stripped away from their Greek citizenship without any notice to them and as soon as they left the Greek borders, they have been denied to enter Greece again and their passports have been confiscated. This is happening since 1990s. More than 9000 people instantly became stateless and took refuge to Turkey by leaving all their properties, money and family back in Greece.

The last case happened in the last week. A medical doctor named M. Hasanoğlu`s passport has been confiscated in the Greek-Turkish border control and his entry to Greece has been denied. The officers told him that he is not a Greek citizen anymore.

He was a member of a political party of Turkey and obviously trying to increase their supporters among western Thrace Turkish community. Apparently his actions was noticed by Greek state and only his membership to a Turkish political party was enough to strip him from Greek citizenship.

Here is the article in Turkish;

So, UMD should be careful about that too because their representative in Greece can be an another victim of this just as the Turkish doctor.

This has absolutely nothing to do wih Mrs Popovski's case. Don't stir up things and if you can't hold an objective and constructive position towards greeks and macedonians, stay away from these matters. Greece seized up to 12,000 greek passports from ethnic turks as an answer to the September 1955 pogroms against ethnic greeks in istanbul which had as a result the decreasing of the Greek Istanbulites from more then 130,000 to 20,000 within a few months. The citizenship was taken away, neither today they can enter Turkey, nor they can get back their properties. Not to mention the Imbros and Tenedos Greeks aswell.

UMD's representative is a well known Greek citizen which inspires respect and there is no fear she would ever be a subject of mistreatment. Keep the attention for greeks and foreigners living in Turkey or for yourself.

Someone, a third party outside macedonians and greeks, who wants to arbitrage between the 2 parties, should help fighting the fire instead adding gas with halftrue stories of the worst quality. Otherwise, if objectivity is a foreign language for him, he should stay silent.

While I read the story of the older lady who wanted to enter Greece but the border officials refused her entering, I immediatelly suggested she should denounce this to the GHM. The same stays for the turkish doctor you are claiming, and I'm waiting from you to advice the same to greeks who want to enter your country but can't because of irrational reason. This would be constructive from your side. The rest is greywolf manner and opportunism. Simple seize of temporary opportunity. pitty

Many of the Macedonians who left Greece during the civil war (as well as their children) did not loose the greek citizenship but they just were cancelled or not re-written, after 1955, in the new municipality records. A simple application for a birth certificate of those who think they lost citizenship usually does not get any answer by greek authorities. We, in some case, asked the intervention of the public prosecutor and the municipality gave the document IMMEDIATELY, although the person had applied for it 7 months earlier and could not get an answer!

Vodenka, the Popovska case and her ill treatment at the hands of the Nazi regime in modern greece is a good opportunity for UMD to make a name for themselves as true servants of the diaspora.
This innocent lady needs all the help she can get at the moment.
I hope your organization can help her and the many others put through this shameless exercise each year.

I personally tried to help several people from RoM but they are not very collaborating! There are some procedures that must be followed and when thing are blocked, get help from a public prosecutor by a lawyer (cost about 200 euros).

vodenka, now that you're the UMD representative in Nazi greece, perhaps you should take up this challenge of representing the diaspora that is hindered in the otherwise mundane activity of crossing the border.

Perhaps you can suggest to your bosses in Washington that they redirect some of their funding away from cocktail parties and awards for the enemies of Macedonia and focus on actually doing something constructive for the diaspora that your organization allegedly represents on a global scale.

Nimetz: Name row can be solved only through Athens-Skopje agreement, good will

Thessaloniki, 26 July 2012 (MIA) - The only solution to the name issue is for both sides to reach agreement and demonstrate will to close the problem. I hope we can move in the right direction, said UN mediator in the name talks Matthew Nimetz after meeting with Greek negotiator Adamantios Vassilakis in Thessaloniki on Thursday.

Nimetz briefed Vassilakis on the talks he had alongside UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with Macedonia's top officials over the past two days.

Regarding Ban Ki-moon's statement that he would personally engage in the name row settlement, Nimetz said the UN Secretary-General has had a role in the process since the very beginning.

"UN Resolution 817 and the Interim Accord stipulate that crucial issues must be discussed under the UN auspices. The SG has an important role in this process, appointing his envoys for the issue", added Nimetz.

According to him, the name problem represents an important issue for the UN, touching upon the region's security.

The UN envoy stressed authorities in Skopje have interest and wish to solve the issue, something that he also heard from Vassilakis on behalf of the government in Athens.

"The only wish of the Greek side is to reach a solution to the name issue. Of course, emotional statements do not help, but the Greek government is trying to do everything in its power so that we gradually find ourselves on the right track", said Vassilakis.

Some local media reported that Vassilakis presented to the UN envoy Greece's remarks over the fact that PM Nikola Gruevski had raised the issue of the Macedonian minority in Greece at the meeting with Ban Ki-moon.

Don't, EVER expect to see the most friendly Macedonian organization on the planet (UMD AKA BOT) to write anything negative towards that racist pig Nimetz - brotherhood with zero results. (see Council on Foreign Relations)
