    14th World Slavic Congress

More than 600 Slavic language experts from 40 countries around the world will take part in the 14th Slavic Congress, to be held in Ohrid from 10-16 September.

Only the Slavic specialists from Greece refused to participate in the congress, a move silently welcomed by the rest of the participants.

In the course of the congress, Turkey, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Spain and China are to be promoted to members of the International Slavic Committee, our correspondent said.

The event will include an exhibition of more than 3.000 scientific works in the field of Slavic culture, which will remain in Macedonia's property.

"The congress in Ohrid will have a positive impact on the resolution of certain controversies. Even though the gathering is not of political nature, it can indirectly influence the settlement of the current political issues," said scholar Milan Gjurcinov, President of World Slavic Congress.

"Macedonia assumes a huge responsibility to provide conditions for civilized and democratic dialogue among congress' participants," Gjurcinov said.

The 14th World Slavic Congress will open on Wednesday.

Not sure but you can check the website of the World Slavic Congress - to be honest its looks like a poxy website, but then again the website is not the focus but the evidence brought about at the congress will be.

Because majority of Slavic specialists refer to Macedonians as Macedonians and only as Macedonians. And most of them oppose Greece's point of view regarding Macedonians. Besides, the Congress is in Macedonia. These Greek Slavic specialists would most likely be criticized by their colleges there and face the reality that Macedonian scholars are not alone in their cause.

Seriously, a Greek Slavic specialist is like a blind person specialising in Interior Decorating. What an immense handicap.

This is most likely the case, they fear to be outed to the Scientific community.

Slovak, this would be a great congress for you to be a part of in the future. Don't you reckon?
You want Macedonia? Come and take it from my blood!

A prosperous, independent and free Macedonia for Macedonians will be the ultimate revenge to our enemies.

I'll first have to see what's it all about. Slavists can be very misdirected people.

                          It's interesting that they havn't.

The Slavic specialists in Greece probably fear a number of things.

Macedonia is the birth place of the Slavic liturgy, and alphabet, and the Greeks I think have a very tough time coming to terms with that point.

Internationl Congress of Slavists - General Information

The International Congress of Slavists is a quinquennial gathering of Slavists in the humanities and social sciences from forty countries worldwide. It is organized by the International Committee of Slavists (ICS), which consists of the chairs of each of constituent national committees. The full ICS meets during the year of the Congress itself. At other times, the business of the ICS is handled by the full Presidium, which meets once in intervening years to plan the next Congress in detail, or by the reduced Presidium, which meets in other intervening years to act on minor issues that require resolution.

The full Presidium consists of six members from Slavic countries (two each from East, West, and South Slavic lands) and six members from non-Slavic countries (Austria, Canada or France, Germany, Italy, Romania, United States). The reduced Presidium consists of four members: the current Slavic host country, the immediately previous Slavic host country, one other Slavic country, and one non-Slavic country.

The International Congress of Slavists was first held in 1929 in Prague, then in 1934 in Warsaw. World War II precluded the actual meeting of the 1939 Congress planned for Belgrade. The sequence resumed in Moscow in 1958, and continued every five years thereafter: Sofia (1963), Prague (1968), Warsaw (1973), Ljubljana and Zagreb (1978), Kyiv (1983), Sofia (1988), Bratislava (1993), Cracow (1998), and Ljubljana (2003). The XIV International Congress of Slavists will be held in Ohrid, Macedonia, September 10-16, 2008

The constituent national committees and their quota of delegates for the next Congress (600 total) are provided in the chart below. A small number of additional positions are reserved for delegates from countries without a national committee of Slavists.
