Evanoff's followers actually managed to convince some of our followers and one of our priests to leave the St. Mary's MOC church for the Macedono-Bulgarian church in Detroit = St. Clement Ohrid.

Also, the secretary of the UMD Board is George Peters. In his bio, it says he goes to "St. Clement Ohrid" Church in Detroit. Well, that's not the whole truth. That church is a "Macedono-Bulgarian" church. I guess you can go to whatever church you want and still be Macedonian, but to go to that church and be on the Board? People feel uneasy about it.

Chris Evanoff also goes to that church, St. Clement in Detroit. Similarly, 8 years ago, when there was a screening of A Name is a Name in downtown Detroit, "Macedonians" from St. Clement invited Macedonians from St. Mary's MOC to watch it together. Some Macedonians warned against it, but most Maks didn't listen. Well, before the showing of the film, they raised the Bulgarian flag and attempted to play the Bulgarian anthem. Suffice to say, people weren't happy.

So, thanks for posting this Phoenix. But until UMD gets rid of these bad apples and stops taking money from just anyone, we can't get on board with them. I'm not saying UMD shares these views, but there are people on their board/council we feel uneasy about.
It looks like Detroit is the last battle ground between Macedono-Bulgarian and Macedonian Orthodox Churches. Everywhere else the Macedono-Bulgarian churches are dead, and in many places (not all), the Macedonian Orthodox Churches are not too far behind. It's sad that this issue is still dividing our community. I always believed that we shouldn't turn our backs on them because most of them are just 2nd and 3rd generation Macedonians who don't know anything about Macedonia or Bulgaria and are just attending those churches because their grandparents did. But from what you're describing it sounds like there are still a few bad apples with agendas, like seriously raising the Bulgarian flag and playing the anthem? That's ridiculous.

Another hypocritical "condemnation". I am with vicsinad, UMD have done some sketchy stuff.

It's a fine line between relevance or political sway and completely ineffective positions. UMD usually errs on the side of desperation for photos with people in positions of influence. This MPO fascination of theirs is fatal.

For some reason i feel as if UMD did this based on some agenda to undermine Ivanov, i mean why else set this up now so this crap can be used against Ivanov... we didn't need this right now.

UMD just see MPO as a cash source and a channel to tap into some political circles in the US.

Where do those clowns (UMD) stand on the agreement and referendum...do they have an unequivocal standpoint or are they mired in their usual ambiguity and fence sitting tradition, confused about whether they are working for the interests of Macedonia(ns) or pursuing their self serving psychotic megalomania.

After 658 pages, do you even have to ask?

Publicly they have been anti name change and pro boycott unequivocally form what I can tell. But it was only a couple years ago that they were backing the colored revolution so that sums up UMD.

Then they have been slowly cozening up to the MPO a nearly 100 year old Bugaroman organization that helped Vancho Mihalov live out his days in Italy.

Meto will do anything for money and for the opportunity to get himself a career position somewhere in the political scene, whether in Macedonia or in the USA.

They are now spreading rumors that LOMA is supporting SDSM and the referendum. That is how low they are.

After all this is over with, I will make it my personal mission to take down that piece of garbage.

I've always believed that Meto has ambitions elsewhere...I just can't believe that they still pull a crowd.

UMD has history trying to tear down other Macedonian organisations, their goal is to be the only show in town... but they'll always be nothing more than a dog and pony show...
