Macedonia opens Embassy in India, two countries boost cooperation

New Delhi, January 20 (MIA) - There is a huge unused potential for more intensified political, economic and other types of cooperation between Macedonia and India, two countries’ foreign ministers Antonio Milososki and Pranab Mukherjee assessed at Tuesday's meeting in New Delhi.

Although two countries has established diplomatic relations in 1996, the bilateral cooperation has been modest so far, and the fact for this is the first official visit of the Macedonian government’s official to India.

Incentive for improvement of the cooperation should be the Macedonian Embassy in New Delhi, officially opened by Milososki, MIA's correspondent reported.

The Embassy has started to work on October 7 last year, after it was registered in India's diplomatic protocol under Macedonia's constitutional name. Petar Jovanovski is the first Macedonian Ambassador to India.

Macedonian Government passed a decision on opening the embassy in January of 2008 in favor of boosting the political, economic cooperation between the two countries.

The opening of Macedonian Embassy in India - most populated democracy in the world - will contribute to further development of overall cooperation between both countries., Milososki said at the ceremony. He expressed hope for India's Embassy to be opened soon in Skopje. At the moment, an honorary council is representing India in Macedonia.

      - This is an important day for the relations between Macedonia and India. Embassy will create additional basis for boosting the relations with the most numerous democracy in the world, Milososki said after the meeting with his Indian counterpart.

India will continue to use the constitutional name in bilateral communication with the Republic of Macedonia and the confirmation for this is the revoke visa agreement to bearers of diplomatic and business passports, which was signed by the two ministers.

      - We expressed our gratitude for the use of the constitutional name by India in bilateral relations. It means a lot to us. India is very important country both in the region and in the world, Milososki said. He introduced Mukherjee with the issues important for the Republic of Macedonia and Mukarjee presented him the India’s national and foreign relations priorities. Macedonia and India besides bilateral will develop multilateral cooperation with mutual support in relation to issues connected with national interests of the two countries.

Both ministers assessed that the important bridge between the two countries especially on cultural and spiritual plan is Mother Teresa, the most famous person in the world originating from Macedonia. Milososki who will visit her grave in Calcutta on Wednesday will unveil commemorative plaque, announced that the memorial house of Mother Teresa in Skopje will be opened very soon.

Macedonian delegation including businessmen led by Prime Minister is likely to pay a visit to India in the second half of 2009.

In regard to strengthening the political ties, Milososki also held talks with the Speaker of the Lower House of the Indian Parliament Somnath Chatterjee.

In an attempt initiating stronger economic relations, Milososki in New Delhi will meet with Indian businessmen and will present them possibilities for investment in Macedonia. Although the economic cooperation notes certain intensification in the past several years, it is still at a very low level. Trade exchange in the first nine months of 2008 was US$35 million, out of which only US$800.000 is Macedonian export to India.

India’s GDP last year grew by 9% and industrial production by 8.5%. Around of US$96 billion foreign investments entered the country and Indian businessmen invested US$38 billion abroad.

Aimed at attracting some of the India’s investments, Macedonian government in the frames of the newly opened embassy in New Delhi has appointed economic promoter to promote Macedonia as good business destination.

Should we suport independance of Macedonian republic of HUNZA in Pakistan? We would have our base there when we would go to battle against Indianians there where our great king stops.

I was reading this piece a while back I didn't realise that she had relatives, I wonder if their still alive...

SKOPJE, SEPT 3: Mother Teresa as a person is still vividly remembered in her birthplace of Skopje in the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, which is planning a series of events to mark the first anniversary of her death.

But in this city where she was born in 1910 into a family of Albanian origin, less is known about the details of the life of Gonxha Agnes Bojax Hiu, whom the world would go on to know and adore as the Mother, and the charity work for which she won the Nobel Peace in 1979.

In particular, it has not been clearly established whether both her parents were Albanian Catholics or whether one was a Slav of the Orthodox faith. The issue is a matter of dispute between ethnic Macedonians and the Albanian community which accounts for a quarter of the population.

When questioned on her origins during the four visits she made to Skopje, Mother Teresa simply replied: ``I feel a citizen of Skopje, my place of birth, but I belong to the world.''

She would speak in Serbo-Croat punctuated by Macedonian expressions and those who knew her say she could barely speak Albanian.

Two of her cousins evoked memories of their childhood in Skopje. ``We were inseparable,'' said Pina Markovska, who was born in 1914, whose grandfather and Mother Teresa's grandmother were brother and sister.

``She was always ready to help others. She enjoyed studying and was very pious... One can only say she was a perfect person,'' Markovska said.

Toni Josifovski, born in 1917 - Mother Teresa's father was his uncle - remembers. ``a young girl, joyful and full of energy''.

``We used to spend a lot of time together,'' he said, adding: ``We lived like one Big family, particularly after the death of her father. I remember one occasion when we were all waiting to go into confession, that she pushed past me saying `I want to go first'.''

In 1980, on her third visit to Skopje, Mother Teresa inaugurated a mission of her Sisters of Charity order and was made a Citizen Of Honour of the Macedonian capital.

Skopje will markthe first anniversary of her death on September 5, with the unveiling of a scale model of a park to be built in her honour at Kale, the ancient district of Skopje which largely escaped the earthquake which devastated the city in 1963.

A five meter (16-foot) bust of Mother Teresa sculpted by the Macedonian artist Tomo Serafimvovsky is to be erected in the park.

A memorial plaque is to be added to one which the government has already put on the spot where the house where Mother Teresa was born once stood. Another plaque will be unveiled in the Catholic church of Sacred Heart, built on the foundations of the church where Mother Teresa used to pray as a child and which was destroyed in the earthquake.

The English version of a work entitled ``Mother Teresa: Citizen Of Skopje, Citizen Of The World'', is due to be published shortly and the Macedonian language version will go on sale at the end of the year.

The work is illustrated with hitherto unpublished photographs of Mother Teresa, dating from herchildhood in Skopje, which she Left in 1918, six years after the end of Ottoman domination.

Thanks IOM, at least there is something that cites the possibility. Her relatives have Macedonian names, are they Macedonian or ethnic Albanians?

George her surname was Bojaxhiu, are you telling that this is a Macedonian surname, it is Albanian it literally means painter.

Her family members were Malsors from northern Albania. After Enver came to power he killed several members of her family members that remained in Albania , Enver Hoxha himself ostracized her publicly on multiple occasions. In 89' she returned to Albania and even laid flowers on Enver Hoxha's grave it was one of the most powerful moments I have ever witnessed, after all the man had done to her family.

                        Famous quote by Mother Theresa:
“By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus”

100 years since the birth of Mother Teresa

For such a short lady she had a very large heart.

Mother Theresa celebrated all over the world, 100th birthday
                              Thursday, 26 August 2010

Mother Teresa, who died in 1997, would have been 100 years old Thursday. Tributes, including a new U.S. postage stamp, abound for the Catholic Church's beatified nun who is just one proven miracle short of canonization.

Parliament of Republic of Macedonia is set to hold a commemoration session on occasion the birth centenary of Mother Teresa, one of the most famous Skopje residents.
