The Sunday Times: Saudis fund Balkan Muslims spreading hate of the West

London, March 28 (MIA) - Saudi Arabia is pouring hundreds of millions of pounds into Islamist groups in the Balkans, some of which spread hatred of the West and recruit fighters for jihad in Afghanistan, the Sunday Times reads.

According to officials in Macedonia, Islamic fundamentalism threatens to destabilise the Balkans. Strict Wahhabi and Salafi factions funded by Saudi organisations are clashing with traditionally moderate local Muslim communities.

Fundamentalists have financed the construction of scores of mosques and community centres as well as handing some followers up to £225 a month. They are expected not only to grow beards but also to persuade their wives to wear the niqab, or face veil, a custom virtually unknown in the liberal Islamic tradition of the Balkans.

Government sources in traditionally secular Macedonia said they were monitoring up to 50 Al-Qaeda volunteers recruited to fight in Afghanistan.

Classified documents seen by The Sunday Times reveal that Macedonian officials are also investigating a number of Islamic charities, some in Saudi Arabia, which are active throughout the Balkans and are suspected of spreading extremism and laundering money for terrorist organisations.

One of the groups under scrutiny is the International Islamic Relief Organisation from Saudi Arabia, which is on a United Nations blacklist of organisations backing terrorism. It did not respond to inquiries, but has previously denied involvement in terrorist activities, calling such claims “totally unfounded”.

According to its website, it works in 32 countries to provide relief to the victims of natural disasters and to carry out humanitarian, health and educational projects.

“Hundreds of millions have been poured into Macedonia alone in the past decade and most of it comes from Saudi Arabia,” said a government source. “The Saudis’ main export seems to be ideology, not oil.”

Sulejman Rexhepi, leader of the Islamic community in Macedonia, said a number of mosques had been forcibly taken over by radical groups. Four in central Skopje are no longer under the control of the official Islamic authorities. New imams claim they have been “spontaneously” installed by the “people”.

“Their so-called Wahhabi teachings are completely alien to our traditions and to the essence of Islam, which is a tolerant and inclusive religion,” said Rexhepi.

In some mosques believers are being told that Macedonia, which sent 200 soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan, has been tricked into supporting a crusade against Islam spearheaded by Britain and America. Radical clerics have shown footage from Afghanistan, Iraq and the Palestinian territories to illustrate their claims that the West is waging war on Islam.

Rahman, a 35-year-old cab driver from Skopje, Macedonia’s capital, said he had stopped going to his local mosque since it was taken over by extremists. “Following the Haiti earthquake the new imam said God would punish the West for their wars in Afghanistan and Iraq with natural disasters,” he said.
Saudi Arabia is pouring hundreds of millions of pounds into Islamist groups in the Balkans, some of which spread hatred of the West and recruit fighters for jihad in Afghanistan, the Sunday Times reads.According to

Well well, what would the west have to say about this. They do promote freedom of speech around the Balkans in particular in Macedonia don't they. Or is it only ok to spread hatred about Macedonia which would be clasified as Freedom of Speech, but spreading hatred towards the west is out of bounds and it can be clasified as inciting or acts of terrorism..

      Obama sends letter to Ivanov.

      Friday, 26 March 2010

U.S. President Barack Obama wrote a letter to his Macedonian counterpart Gjorge Ivanov, expressing gratitude for Macedonia's decision to send extra troops to the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

Obama also encourages the process of seeking a resolution of the name dispute with Greece, and he also supports Macedonia's integration into the Euro-Atlantic community.

In his letter, President Obama voices his gratitude for additional troops and trainers Macedonia plans to send to Afghanistan. With such a contribution, The Macedonia is among the countries with biggest contribution to ISAF, he added.

We highly appreciate your country's partnership in the response to common challenges, not just in Afghanistan but elsewhere in the world, including Bosnia and Iraq, Obama said in his letter, noting that he encourages the name resolution process.

Obama shouldn't be encouraging the Macedonians to change their name when his own state recognizes Macedonia, as Macedonia.

Instead, he should go and tell those Greek priests that he seems so fond of to cease with their racism against the Macedonian people, so that he does not appear a quasi-racist hypocrite himself.
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.

This is the problem for all of us, because our "leaders" are making the process of finding a "solution" a central foriegn policy issue.

Why are we making it everyone elses business? Why are we holding ourselves hostage?

If the Macedonian leadership continues and continues to tell foriegn countries that it is serious about finding "a solution" - other countries are going to hold us to account. When the time comes every country will want to collect on the promises this leadership have been stupidly selling to countries who have no business knowing.

What those brainless leaders should be doing is rejecting "the Greek terms" put to us - emphatically, and without any doubt. Their terms are irrational, unreasonable and anyone else would declare a state of war if such terms were put to them.

Macedonia Rising: Getting Economic Freedom Right in Trying Times
              http://www.heritage.org./Events/2010...cedonia-Rising
Easing labor regulations! Reducing start up costs for new businesses! Cutting taxes and tariffs! It’s not the recipe coming out of Washington these days, but for one small state in southeastern Europe, it’s delivering big rewards. Over the past several years Macedonia has made remarkable strides in advancing economic freedom. In 2010, Macedonia posted the 4th largest gain in economic freedom of the 179 countries ranked in The Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom.

What is driving Macedonia’s advance? How are leading Macedonian policymakers fostering economic freedom and creating a business environment which attracts investment? Why is Macedonian advancing in the right direction while so many countries are back sliding in economic freedom? Economic freedom is the proven path to faster growth and increased prosperity. Join us for a discussion of the policy reforms driving remarkable progress in the Balkans.
The Macedonians originates it, the Bulgarians imitate it and the Greeks exploit it!

Well done. I am about to assist in that economic development. Bravo Macedonia!
From the village of P’pezhani, Tashko Popov, Dimitar Popov-Skenderov and Todor Trpenov were beaten and sentenced to 12 years prison. Pavle Mevchev and Atanas Popov from Vrbeni and Boreshnica joined them in early 1927, they were soon after transferred to Kozhani and executed. As they were leaving Lerin they were heard to shout "With our death, Macedonia will not be lost. Our blood will run, but other Macedonians will rise from it"

Greek debt slashed to junk status

                  By business editor Peter Ryan

                  Updated June 15, 2010
Not everyone is convinced Greece can meet its debt obligations. (Reuters: John Kolesidis)

Sovereign debt fears in Europe are spreading, with the international ratings agency Moody's downgrading Greek government debt to junk status.

The agency made the move despite the European Union's multi-billion-dollar bailout package, and now there is speculation that foreign banks are steering clear of countries like Spain.

The downgrade by Moody's was not unexpected. Back in April, Standard and Poor's also slashed Greek government debt to junk status, warning investors might get less than a third of their outlay back.

But the latest move comes after the European Union and the IMF intervened with a $130 billion bailout package.

Moody's says the rating incorporates a greater, albeit low, risk of default. But not everyone is convinced Greece can meet its debt obligations.

Charles Jenkins from The Economist Intelligence Unit says Greece's debt is difficult to manage.

"It is now absolutely clear that Greece has got a combination of deficits and debt levels, which will be extremely difficult to manage and it may be that they will have to write down some of that debt," he said.

"[The] $130 billion is a loan, it's not a gift and it's a loan at a fairly high interest rate - not as high as market rates, but fairly high, around 9 per cent. So it has to be paid back.

"Now, it will cover Greece for the next couple of years or so. So Greece should be able to tackle its problems without worrying too much about what the markets are doing over the next 18 months to two years.

"But after that the loan will run out and other governments are not going to be willing to just thump up indefinitely."

The risk, according to Moody's, is that the tough austerity measures Greece has implemented will only damage the country even more and make the chance of an eventual default even greater.

                  [.....]

Fears for safety of evicted migrants

Following the recent rape of a 3-year-old Afghan girl, Health Ministry officials and government advisers have expressed concern that operations to clean squatters out of abandoned buildings in Athens are leading to authorities having no records of undocumented migrants sleeping in the street.

The attack on the girl, who has not been named, took place in a square in Athens where her homeless family had been sleeping. It is alleged that an attacker, who authorities believe to be a portly Greek-speaking man who wears a crucifix, pulled the child aside while her parents slept and raped her behind some bushes. Authorities did not identify the square where the attack is alleged to have taken place.

Its not the first time someone in Greece with a crucifix around his neck that has committed something atrocious.

Thessa......you don't wear a crucifix and been hanging around Athens latley, by any chance????

                        GREECE BATTLES WEST NILE OUTBREAK

Athens, 18 August 2010 (MIA) - Greece's health ministry has said it was stepping up the fight against West Nile virus which has killed three people since the beginning of the month, AFP reported.

Some 47 people were diagnosed with the virus on Monday including 11 new cases discovered over the weekend, according to a statement from the Centre for the Control and Prevention of Diseases (KEELPNO).

Of this total, 45 patients have been diagnosed with encephalitis - an inflammation of the brain caused by the virus - of whom three elderly patients, also suffering from unrelated diseases, died. According to KEELPO, seven of the 28 people hospitalised on Monday are in intensive care.

The virus, transmitted through infected mosquito bites, has so far affected populations in northern Greece, in a zone stretching from Larissa to the northern city of Salonica, in close proximity to lakes and rivers.

The health ministry has ordered that efforts to spread insecticides in the region be intensified, targeting areas where contamination is highest. A campaign to inform the public will also be launched.

KEELPNO's Doctor Doritsa Bakka said the virus has been found in the past in Greece but had never before caused encephalitis.

She said the spread of the disease had been encouraged by a hot and wet summer, an ideal breeding ground for mosquitos.

ETHNOS: "US TAPS SKOPJE ON THE SHOULDER"

Athens, 31 August 2010 (MIA) - "The United States taps Skopje on the shoulder" is the comment of Greek daily "Ethnos" regarding the latest statement of US Ambassador to Macedonia Philip Reeker that Washington's position with regard to a name settlement between Greece and Macedonia doesn't envisage the constitutional name or the Constitution of the country to be changed.

The newspaper says that Reeker with his statements from an interview with Skopje TV station "Alfa" is in fact advocating the "double name formula" to be accepted as a solution to the name issue between Skopje and Athens i.e. a compromise solution to be found which would substitute the reference FYROM, while the name the Republic of Macedonia would be used internally and in bilateral communication with states that have already recognised the constitutional name.

Philip Reeker, the newspaper adds, assures that the resolution would not alter the Macedonian identity and language.

                            - We think that the solution should not change the constitutional name or the Constitution. It is your Constitution, your sacred document. It is necessary both sides, Greece and Macedonia, to reach an agreement on a single international name, which would replace FYROM and where it will be used. We support efforts to be made to focus on the real issue, not on the issues of identity or language - it refers to finding a resolution which will allow to preserve the Constitution and to join NATO, "Ethnos" cites Reeker's statement.

The daily comments that his statements come ahead of an anticipated new initiative by UN mediator Matthew Nimetz aimed at settling the name row while seeking for a formula to overcome the deadlocked situation in the name talks.

It is due to be determined whether the statements of Ambassador Reeker fully reflect the official US position and whether Athens is familiar with the new framework in the name talks, comments "Ethnos".

I see what you say. I should have made it more clear that i was Talking specificly about the constitutional name and not the Entire rearanged constitution.

Let me single out the whole sentence i picked on and tried to make a point.

We think that the solution should not change the constitutional name or the Constitution. It is your Constitution, your sacred document.
My beef was with Reeker on one hand wants to respect as he put it a "Sacred Document" which includes our constitutional name. But i know for a fact tommorow i will read him playing a different tune regarding our name. I am sick of words and pricks from the west contradicting them selves which is why i said (same old Bullshit)

Another thing, constitution can be changed. So if Reeker is for respecting this sacred document, Will he feel the same if we reinstated the original constitution? would it be a "sacred document" and would his homeland respect it then?
