Thinking about visiting Australia within a year.

    Zdravo brajka,

I've been considering a visit to Australia for awhile now and in particular I would love to attend some Macedonian functions. I would also be interested in attending a Preston Lions game, MTG Boomerang performance, and so forth. We only have a microscopic Macedonian community here, and it would be interesting to see the larger one in Australia.

I'm looking for ideas on when would be the best time to visit and interesting things to see.

    Much appreciated!

Where are up from Prespa and which parts of Australia do you plan on visiting?

The weather in Melbourne during January is generally good. There are Macedonian picnics held then, both in King Lake and in Donnybrook. It used to be only King Lake, but unfortunately due to certain issues it is now at two locations. There was also a thread on this forum regarding a Macedonian Lerin picnic in early-mid February, but not sure if it is held annually. Aside from that, throughout the year there are other picnics and annual dinner-dances organised through village communities generally based on the patron saint days for each village. And I am sure there are other cultural events that I have missed. There are also some good restaurants in Preston and Reservoir (suburbs that have been traditional hubs for Macedonians) where you will get good food and Macedonian music.

According to the Preston Makedonia website their first match this year was in late March. And regarding the MTG Boomerang, you will need to do some research on the net and check their performance schedules. I tried to do a quick search but couldn't find anything, maybe somebody else here can point you in the right direction.

So unless you plan to stay here for a few months I don't think you will capture everything in one trip. Or you could just move to Melbourne
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.

... and deal with the inevitable psychological trauma later.
