    Short Turkish Film

    Onur, I didnt realize it was that bad during the 1930's in Turkey, i guess you should always respect your music first and then look to the others. I thought it was a great film, there are English subtitles on there.

    In 1930s, some western headed people in ruling party gone too far and abandoned playing Turkish music in the radio and the Turkish music education in art schools. They only let western classical music education in Turkey but this was only valid for few months and Turkish music returned to the radios but Turkish music artists never forgot this prohibition and it`s still being mentioned from time to time by them.

    This video is a humor of it and ofc it`s exaggerated. No one pointed guns to anyone just because they play Turkish music and ofc people could play it. Prohibition was only for radio and education in schools for few months only but it`s still being remembered as an example for how far people has gone in the name of westernization.

        Onur,
        What is the name and composer of the song they're singing at the end of the video? This is an older similar Greek parody and they use the same song.
        In Greece, it is called "Siko Horepse Koukli Mou" and is credited to Stelios Kazantzidis who has "stolen" many songs, so I guess...

          This is one of the Ottoman era songs. The composers for these songs are mostly anonymous, unknown cuz it`s either composed by a simple peasant or someone who plays in Izmir, Istanbul taverns in Ottoman era without writing music notes. This one is probably composed between 1850-1910.

          I searched from websites and it says that this song is first noted and archived in Turkey in 1926. Also it says that Stelyo Kazanci wrote Greek lyrics for the first time in 1958.

          Actually Stelyo just wrote Greek lyrics to these songs to let other Greeks enjoy it.

          The name of this song is "Kalenin Bedenleri". Candan Ercetin sings live in Skopje;

                Candan`s family are one of Macedonia immigrants from Tito era. They are either from Skopje or Bitola, not Aegean Macedonia.

                She did an album with 12 songs from Ottoman era and she always sings Balkan tunes in her concerts. I`ve gone to her concerts 3 times b4. She is so lovely and she has beautiful voice. I think the music video you`ve linked above are from 1995 or something, it`s old.

                This video is from her latest album in 2009 but you miss most of the thing cuz Candan gives so much emphasis for the lyrics in her songs. You lose a lot of this song if you dont understand Turkish;
