Zimbabue recognized Macedonia under its constitutional name. It is now number 130 of 162 that Macedonia has established diplomatic relations with. Now finally we have more than 2/3 of the UN countries recognizing us as Republic of Macedonia.

Wasnt something special meant to happen when two thirds of the UN recognized us? I remember reading on one of these forums from people who were pro "name negotiating" that if we waited until two thirds of the UN to recognize us it will give the macedonian government some "upper hand" infront of the UN or something like that.....

Disregarding the venomous (neo) colonial and imperialist anti-Zimbabwe (anti Mugabe and ZANU-PF) propaganda rhetoric because Mugabe and ZANU have stood up to IMPERIALISM, this political act is a very good development and has good prospects of many other countries in Southern Africa following suit. This Zimbabwe relationship needs to be pursued and developed and, if they have not done so already, countries such as Mozambque, Angola, Namibia and much of the rest of southern Africa should follow the lead of Zimbabwe in establishing diplomatic relations with Macedonia in a principled manner.

The official (long form conventional) name of Zimbabwe is the Republic of Zimbabwe and the official (long form conventional) name for Macedonia is the Republic of Macedonia (except where it has agreed to be renamed and called something else, which is most places in the international arena). Therefore it would seem logical and principled to use short form conventional name Macedonia when using the same format for other countries in news stories and discussion forums but it seems even here on MTO many Macedonians can not see the light and, either consciously or unconsciously, continue to parrot/promote anti-Macedonian terminology. To avoid this trap requires a level of (MACEDONIAN CONSCIOUSNESS) political consciousness and discipline that, in my observation and analysis, seems to be generally lacking in most Macedonians on MTO and other fora.

I agree. The 'republic of' prefix should be used only in context and when required. I don't agree that most Macedonians here are ignorant of that.

If you think about it, I say there is a huge sub-conscious sentiment that compels people to say "Republic of Macedonia". "Macedonia" comes in at no. 2 and "Macedonian Republic" comes in last.
