I'm starting this thread to discuss ways to improve our means of raising awareness on what Macedonians have had to deal with not only among Macedonians but to the general public across the world. While we still need to address internal issues regarding things like the lack of political party in the Republic of Macedonia that seems to have our interests in mind, one of the big issues is lack of awareness among people who can help keep international institutions from harming us more than they already have so that addressing those problems isn't such an uphill battle.
In this day and age, a major tool for quickly getting word about something out there is social media and other online resources.
Youtube
While youtube has some videos in english, most of them aren't, limiting accessibility for the mostly english speaking population. If you click the ... in the bottom right above the subscribe button, you have the option of reporting a video, opening a transcript or offering translations. Unfortunately the ability to contribute translations is limited to videos that permit it, so you're more likely to get a message that you can't than one where you can. Still worth a try. Alternatively you can type up your own translation under the video when sharing it so people who don't speak Macedonian can still understand what's going on in the video. If you come across a hateful video, reporting it would be a good idea even if you don't think it'll do anything.
We could always use more videos about Macedonia, so making more, whether raw footage of events or an explanation of the discrimination Macedonians face straight from a Macedonian experiencing it would help raise awareness on the matter.
Social Media
Now, regarding social media, it's a great way to promote sites such as MTO, so if there's no social media account for it I'd recommend making one. Otherwise just generally using personal accounts to raise awareness or deconstruct propaganda would help. The more we talk about these issues in public spaces the more people will become aware of the issue. The whole point of social media is networking, so anyone with an account on the same one should network.
Twitter mostly operates on a tagging system, so picking out a tag and committing to using it to make the topic trend tends to be how things get noticed on there. Facebook I don't know much about but you can link videos, sites and articles on there, maybe form a group or whatever.
Tumblr has a lot of socially conscious people eager to help raise awareness about human rights violations, racism, etc so if anyone has an account there posting/reblogging posts on the matter can help. People also screenshot twitter and facebook posts there.
MTO
A number of the older articles on MTO have images that no longer display due to issues with the hosting. Fixing those images so that they display again will help make those articles more useful. People coming to the site only to find an article talking about an image that doesn't work doesn't leave a good impression. A way to prevent this in the future would be to host them on the site rather than externally the way the forum does.
Additionally the seeming lack of new content since 2010 can give people the impression that the site isn't active anymore, so if there's anything we can make new articles out of that could help fix that.
