    So da prevrtam

    Hello everyone,

The title is a bit of humor because I have waited 2 or 3 weeks to be activated to post on the forum and all I could think about was this is pretty Macedonian (things move at a much slower pace then everywhere else in the world)

Anyway this is my first post and I wanted to introduce myself and get to talk to everyone who I already feel like I know. I have read maybe hundreds of pages of posts already so although no one know me don't be surprised if I know something about you. I'm not a stalker just a devout Makedonec.

I'm from the USA and I'm first generation born. My parents are both from Lakocerej, a village outside of Ohrid. My father was as big of a patriot as they came and all I heard about as a kid was the stories of our vojvodi, hence the name he gave me (Goce) and my brother Jane.

Im an accountant and Im married to a girl from Moroista, a village right outside Struga.

Ive learned a lot from the community here and I hope to now connect with all of you and engage in healthy discussion about the issues of our homeland.

Sorry for the incorrect spelling of "prevrtam" in the title of the thread. I'm at work and typing while also trying to "work". [corrected, Risto the Great]

Dobro doide! We need more Macedonian patriots like your father and you on here, then we will change the plight of Macedonia and it's people worldwide!
On Delchev's sarcophagus you can read the following inscription: "We swear the future generations to bury these sacred bones in the capital of Independent Macedonia. August 1923 Illinden"

                Welcome komsija!

Lakocerej is quite close to my Mum's village (Velgosti) - beautiful part of Macedonia. Everytime I go to Macedonia I stay in the village - nothing beats it!

How are things going over in the states?

Blagodaram, Yes he was very involved in the States, I remember him organizing protests in NYC when the name change happened. He was artistic so he made flags of the lion and sun I still have a box of them in my attic along with hats stickers. He was head of a Macedonian bar/social club where he banned Serbian music from being played, that didn't go over well with most of them. Helped build the church here in NJ. My house was like an immigrant hub, who ever was new in the area would stay at my house and my dad would give them work and pay them more then they were worth. Don't get me started on the donations he gave to the church in Macedonia. Why am I telling you all this you might ask. Well he died when I was very young and when I was younger (after he died) I had resented all that he did for others when I began to realize the true character of most Macedonians. Well I am older now and I am proud and eventually rediscovered the patriotism that was instilled in me as a child.

Yes I agree I have a house in Lakocerej, my Mother was born in Velgosti as well. I love the Ohrid region. I plan to move there in the near future. Which brings me to your next question

How are things going over in the states?
Things are going well in many ways, but I am very disillusioned with American culture/lifestyle/politics. I think you have to be born here and live here your entire life like I have to know really the true state of this country. In short its not what people think it is and its certainly not what Americans think it is. The USA is decades behind Europe on social and economic issues. There is a reason we have mass killings every week you know.

Serbian music in Jersey is very typical. There is no organization in NJ either. Nothing. The only organization that exists is the church/igranka organization. Other than that NJ apparently has tens of thousands of Macedonians, a senator in their state who goes out of his way to deny they exist and he isn't even grk, and they are all imi's looking to get married to American born Macedonians who want nothing to do with these sort of people. Jersey is a sad state in more ways than one. Probably because the majority are from the Republic as opposed to the annexed parts of Macedonia. In other words they moved their asses from the Kafana in Macedonia to the Kafana in Jersey. I had family active in NY when Macedonia became independent. That was organized perfectly. I was a boy then and remember the 90's protests. We now have the Easter igranka to look forward to lol.

Ah I see you are very familiar with our lot.The NJ diaspora is in a very very sad state. My father had to get into a fist fight in order to ban the Serbian music in the cultural club. Yes many of them are recent immigrants many are illegal too. 90% of men work construction 75% of the women and girls prefer Hispanics over Macedonians. %95 percent know more Serbian songs than Macedonian ones. Almost none of them care for history or politics. Almost all of them go to Macedonia every summer (the younger ones who are legal and can travel). Collectively they are pretty useless and rarely help each other. They are very jealous and love to gossip, they usually avoid each other when possible. Yes almost all of them are from the Republic. There has to be over 20,000 of them in NJ. Oddly enough Ive never heard an official figure but NJ is quite populated so even if we were 50,000 it would be less than 1% of the population of NJ. I think we can pretty much write off the Macedonian population in NJ as a lost cause. Meto (UMD) is from Garfield as well and I got to tell you, he wasn't the brightest growing up, in fact many of us even thought he was a little weird. Ah the Christmas and Easter igranki, gossip/showing off contest.
