Apparently i'm told the word aegae is a macedonian word.It's not a greek word so the greeks forgot to change that to reflect greek toponyms.

Hi Mila, welcome to the forum.
My family hails from Aegean Macedonia (Lerin, Visheni & Verbeni) and when asked of my background i always say 'native Macedonian from the part of Macedonia currently under Greek occupation'. Has also been a good lead in for giving a quick history lesson here and there
