Same thing is occurring here in Melbourne.

Macedonian events held at the Croatian Center, anyone know the reason for this?

The Macedonian Center is only a few kms from there.

Blagojce, it makes me so fuckin' sick I can't begin to tell you...

I wonder how many slovenes or slovenians (or whatever the fuck they call themselves) and croats hire out Macedonian halls...fuck all, I reckon but we crawl over the top of each other like cockroaches to use their facilities or provide them with our custom...

The Macedonian Center seems to be a hit with the Vietnamese, Chinese and Philippine community here.

I think they like the fact it is so big inside and quite cheap per head when organising functions like weddings and birthdays.

I would have figured it would be the other way around, considering there are only 16,000 slovenes in australia, whilst there are 84,000 thousand macedonians in Australia.

Im guessing Adelaide is the rare exception were the slovenes outnumber the macedonians????
In Adelaide, the Macedonian and Slovenian communities are similar in size.

Although we should make greater efforts to use the facilities of our own community, in some cases the price difference is too much and people must go elsewhere. For example the annual Maturska Vecer in NSW has not been held at the Macedonian hall in Rockdale (Ilinden club) because the cost to hire was too expensive and people at the Ilinden Club were unwilling to give a discount so that the event could be held there. Now who is at fault?!, the organisers or the Hall? I get the point being made, and agree, but in many cases exceptions are made due to the circumstances.

Yea they are, search Ogneni Momcinja up on FB and you will find out when they are performing.

It is most likely the cost, and/or the size of the hall, that is the reason why many Macedonian events held in Sydney are held in the Croatian Club/Private function centres, rather than the Ilinden Club Hall. It is expensive and the hall can only a couple of hundred people. The Cabramatta/Rockdale church halls are too small to hold larger concerts.

For example in Wollongong, the Portofino Function Centre (where most large Macedonian events are held) can hold over 450 people, whereas the Macedonian Church Hall and the Cringila Football Club can only hold half that number.

Just because so many people questioned the size of the communities, I compared based on the 2006 data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The Macedonian and Slovenian communities in South Australia are of a very similar size.
