Rightfully many of you have attacked the Macedonian government for not doing enough to maintain the integrity of Macedonia…not that they have not done anything but just not enough. When ones integrity is put in question a strong case needs to be made without question. When a strong case needs to be made every point and ever facet of ever point needs to be nailed down lest the prick keeps giggling and squirts you in the eye.

I assume too much sometimes…for those unfamiliar with the political invention of the Irish joke by the English.

As you may know Ireland was occupied by the English and as a means of preemptively diffusing any support for the Irish and their cause for liberation the English invented and perpetuated the infamous Irish jokes to make the Irish appear foolish simpletons.

The purpose of making the Irish appear foolish was to create an unfavorable reputation for the Irish and an air of common knowledge that such is the truth and anyone questioning the validity of such a reputation would be made to feel they are questioning common knowledge and hence appear foolish themselves. To avoid appearing foolish themselves people went along with the jokes and the Irish reputation…read lies…as a given truism. This was done so that the unfavorable reputation of the Irish would precede them and so any Irish mission into Europe to garner support for their cause would be dismissed out of hand and fail before it had started.

This technique has been repeated by many people in many situations.

Are not the Greeks perpetuating the lie that Macedonia is Greek for 4000 years and the Macedonians are confused Slavs as the result of the great north to south Slavic migration trying to usurp the Greek lands and heritage. Is not one of their key claims that everyone knows this as common knowledge and a given truth and only uneducated fools would support the claims of the ignorant greedy Slav Macedonians stupidly believing they can rewrite history without anyone noticing. By perpetuating this line it is possible that people around the world would simply dismiss any Macedonian mission for support without even hearing them first. It is through good work the Macedonians are turning the tide on the great Greek lie.

Likewise a joke is a joke only within the confines of in which it was created…eg in the UFO and Stuff thread…and used outside these confines in perpetuity and especially if used with no apparent logical reason is only a form control via a convenient putdown. If allowed to fester unchallenged a lie repeated often enough can become the truth and a reputation formed.

Where the perpetrator fails himself is when he uses it too liberally including against sound valid points. This has the effect of showing up the perpetrator as the malicious individual he is but sometimes if the lie has taken a strong hold over a long enough time even gaffs by the perpetrator can be excused overlooked and forgotten returning to the position of the status quo ie the perpetrator is always right and believed and the victim is stupid and should not be taken seriously and dismissed.

This situation has the effect of leaving the victim to either give up and leave and the perpetrator to gloat…see he left with his tail between his legs because he knows he is wrong…or if the victim wants to stay in the group give up by accepting his fate as somehow a lesser individual and dare not act against the perpetrator less the victim be dismissed entirely by the group and hence the form of control is established. My favorite is the third option to expose the perpetrator as the malicious cretin that he is for all to see.

Although being Australian I would have preferred a two finger emoticon as its history of the two finger…on the one hand…up yours more accurately coveys the given message I intended…but this will have to do.
