The meaning of the name SASO(САШО)

I am after any information about the meaning, origin and possible Macedonian heroes with this name. I need the information to be legitimate with sources of where the information has come from.

For example it is common knowledge amung Macedonians to assume that this name is a nickname for Alexander the Great.

This is still very common in macedonia- usually people with the name Aleksandar/Aleksandra are called Sasho/ Sashka skrateno. Some have gone and taken the short version as a full name but that is more recent. In the past I believe it was a short version of Aleksandar/Aleksandra
