If it makes you feel any better Risto, our TV announcers here in Canada referred to you as Macedonia after the initial announcement in the stadium which used the f word.

Thanks Spartan, no ... it does not make me feel any better at all. Everyone uses Macedonia after they say the F word. The F word is a complete denial of identity that is perpetuated by others and accepted by too many Macedonians.

On another note, did you hear about the tragic death of the 21 year old georgian?
Just saw the clip, flew off his luge at 144 kms/h and hit a steel wall during a practice run.
Died on impact...horrible way to start off the games.

Channel 9 coverage in Melbourne. FYROM was announced in Canada, and a brief moment of silence from our commentary team. Then Eddie said something like: Here's Macedonia, led by so and so from such sport." And that was it. The Aussies are put in a difficult position with our problem with the Greeks. It was very awkward, but they made the decision to respect our identity*, but minimising the exposure/damage.

* - Superficially at least. maybe they were afraid of legal action given Rann affair? Did the other cities have the same commentary team (McGuire/MacKinnon) or did you have your own local teams? If so, how was Macedonia received?
