Terror in Albania over classes in Macedonian

Skopje. Parents of 200 children, who take classes in Macedonian language in Golo Brdo, Albania, are put under everyday terror and threats, while the situation in Gora is even worse, Macedonian Dnevnik daily writes.
According to Edmond Osmani from Golo Brdo, the classes have not started because of the strong pressure from the institutions in Albania. The newspaper also notes that children are studying Macedonian thanks to a non-government organization.
“We want for the Macedonian Foreign Ministry to take actions. It is unacceptable for a country in Europe, which declares itself democratic, to violate the human rights”, Osmani says.
Dnevnik writes further that the classes in Gora have not even started because of the pressure exerted by the state institutions.
I withdraw my previous thoughts that Albania is a more progressive place than Greece. They are about the same.

The AMHRC has been a wonderful source of continued and consistent assistance for Macedonians in Greece and Bulgaria. I wonder if this is something they might be able to assist with.

    Risto,

a response to the relevant authorities is being sent jointly by AMHRC and MHRMI. Also, both organisations are going to provide funding to help maintain the Macedonian language classes. An official announcement will be made later today.

    Cheers,

    AMHRC.

Letters everyone can do ... but the funding and support from AMHRC & MHRMI is sensational.

I recall my Father (Bog da go prosti) when he went on a delegation to Maceodonia in the 1990's. A Macedonian representative from Albania was in attendance and expressed the level of poverty they endured. After eating their meal, he asked if anybody would be offended if he could collect the uneaten bread etc. to bring back with him for his people back in Albania.

The entire delegation was so overwhelmed with this that they could not pull money out of their pockets fast enough to give to this courageous Macedonian from Albania.

The Macedonians of Albania have shown their desire to live as Macedonians. We must support those who support them.

Thats a very sad story Risto, they are very poor i agree aswell as the Gorani in Kosovo its sad indeed, i remember Metodija once stating how when Stojko Stojkov from OMO Ilinden Pirin came to America he didnt have a suit so they had to go and get him one, our minorities are very poor around the region.

AMHRC, Whats the current news on the Gorani in Kosovo?? Whats the status of their minority rights there?? I know Todor Petrov and his people went there and the authorities there said they would fully cooperate but im not sure if we can take their word for it.

            Prolet,

The problem with the Macedonians (Gorani and Torbeshi) in Kosovo is also a structural one.

But the problem is more a European/(Western) one. In the past it was principally the E.U administration that failed to recognize the Macedonians in Kosovo by refusing to name them.
