I think Alexender (Iskender in Turkish) was a Macedonian and Atatürk (Founder and first president of Republic of Turkey) was bord in Thessaloniki (Selanik in Turkish). Turks say: "Atatürk was born in Thessaloniki in Macedonia and Atatürk was a Macedonian type".

    Peace between Macedonia & Turkey.

merhaba and hosh geldiniz monsieur "atesh" or as we say here in macedonia "ogon"
    1) Macedonians belong to the "older" Mediterranean substratum...
    2) Macedonians are not related with geographically close Greeks, who do not belong to the "older" Mediterranenan substratum...

Ottoman, Ghengis Khan`s empire was mostly Turks but the Genghis himself and his ruling elite was Mongols. As soon as he started his campaigns, he enslaved Turkic peoples(Tatars, Uyghurs and others) and majority of his army and people became Turks and his court filled with Uyghurs and others.

If we consider the ruling elite, they weren't Turks at all. Also Uyghur, Arabic and Persian historians wrote that Genghis Khan`s army killed more than million people in central asia. They killed most of the Uyghur Turks. The rest of Turkic people like some Tatars, Cumans fled to the Europe. Genghis also destroyed Seljuk empire in Anatolia. There was several Turkic states there b4 13th century, like Gokturks, Khazars and none of them did what Genghis Khan has been done.

You should also consider that crusaders allied with Mongols against Seljuks and Mamluks. If ruling elite would be Turks, then why they would ally with crusaders to kill other Turks. Thats not logic.

Hi Atesh welcome. who says ogon, I say ogan Oxrid-Bitola

Thanks Onur, what you say makes sense, you have a lot of knowledge about the history of your own people, very commendable. I would like to know, was there ever a Turkic dialect that served as a 'lingua franca' during the medieval period? If so, how far did it spread and for how long did it last before individual Turkic groups began to incline more towards their local vernaculars again?

Ottoman, I am not trying to argue the point in favour of their numerical superiority over Turks or other Ural-Altaic groups, but to completely deny that they existed is without foundation. Think about it.

I have watched the film 'Mongol' only in parts, and never the full thing. I liked what I saw, but cannot comment on the whole film. Onur and Ottoman, have you guys watched it? If so, what is your interpretation? Apparently some in Mongol society didn't appreciate the way certain things were depicted.

In the film, I recall it makes a point that it was Mongol custom not to kill children, would that only apply to their own, or all children? If it is the latter, it contradicts the way that Mongols have been portrayed by both the Christian and Islamic worlds.
