In contrast to what the above 18th-19th century Greek intellectuals wrote concerning the ancient Macedonians and Alexander the Great, here are texts of some writers concerning the views of the Macedonian population during the same era, the so-called "Macedonian Bulgarians".

The history of the Macedonian population as considered by the natives themselves is clear. There are no Pericles' or Leonidas', no Asparuk's or Omurtag's, regardless of attached names due to historical and/or political circumstances. While several Greek intellectuals were claiming the ancient Macedonians to be conquerors, the Macedonians were claiming them as their ancesty.

Ancient Macedonians were not part of the Ancient Greek world.

The Macedonians were considered conquerors of ancient Greece, the first of a series of invaders that kept the region under their rule for more than two millenia.
    Perfectly and truly stated.

Basically, Greeks (new and old) never thought the Macedonians were related to them, or part of their world.

    So whats changed in 2009?

This whole page is very informative. I only highlighted one specific area for our imposter hellene friends to see. One name on that list, Adamantios Korais, sticks out for me seeing as he is the creator of the false language known as Katharevousa.
