Thessaloniki was part of the Ottoman Empire before the Hellenes liberated it.

"liberate" - To set free, as from oppression, confinement, or foreign control.
"occupy" - To seize possession of and maintain control over by or as if by conquest.

Semantics.

Please explain how Macedonians were set free.
Please also explain how the Hellenes were involved and whether any other nation was more instrumental.

Greeks were the largest ethnic group in Macedonia according to many Ottoman census.

As for other nations; there were other nations involved, mainly the Bulgarians and the Serbs. The Bulgarians defeated the Turks, but so did the Greeks. Athens though had sent a telegram to the King who was leading the Army telling him to keep on marching and not stop and rest in the night because he knew the Bulgarians would try to lay claim to Thessaloniki.

The Bulgarians were taking their sweet time, while the Greeks were doing forced marches to take the city and beat the Bulgarians to it by a matter of hours. Tough luck for the Bulgarians...

You sleep you lose...we wanted Thessaloniki more than anyone else and we got it.

Ottoman census' were not at all accurate and this is even according to the modern "greeks" of the time. Besides we all know about the Hellenized Vlachs strewn all over Macedonia. Yeah,,,real ethnic "greeks"

Occupied is the real term that should be used. Not liberate.

Go and take a read of the 1881 Ottoman census of Macedonia.
Greeks struggled to make 3% of the total population.
Naturally once the bearded Christian guys who previously blessed the Turkish cannons started weaving their magic to convince everyone that the Patriarchate would guarantee their souls ... well ... hey presto ... more "Greeks" appeared soon thereafter. But we all know what language they spoke and rest assured NONE of them danced the Rembetika.

The League of Nations knew it too. When they were not regulating opium trade in Europe, they were pretty keen on looking like they cared about the Macedonians.

Can you present this 3% document you re claiming all the time?

I can provide you 100 censuses and estimation with 0% ethnic Macedonians in Macedonia.
