Yes, the Hellenistic Salonika is "optimistic" to say the least.

German city-planners to restore Athens and Sparta after 2,000 years, French city-planners to re-create a 'Hellenic' city in Salonika.
Today's Salonika is a new city, and did not evolve historically, as the above has indicated. Furthermore, rather than re-creating the real Salonika, a fake was created to accomodate the Hellenic myth of 4,000 years of continuity. It almost seems like a sad joke, although it is intentionally confusing more than anything else, fancy that, a formerly Ottoman-Jewish city that was burned, re-created into something it never was, settled with Christians from Turkey and now is a 'Hellenic' hub of Anatolians claiming to be Macedonians. The irony of it all.....

Nothing but lies and allusions. The average tourist would is duped into believing Solun has been a 'greek' city for thousands of years.Originally posted by Risto the Great View PostReal history was destroyed in exchange for what?

This wouldn't be the first time a westerner created a counterfeit version (or fantasy) of a city in modern "greece".
and
I always thought that there were ethnic "greeks" that built their own cities let alone there most famous classical city
The only difference being that Solun was never a "hellenic" city in the first place. Sleight of hand trickery to bewitch the eyes of the ignorant.

Ernest Hebrard Transformed Solun into a 'HellenoEuropean' City

Salonica Terminus by Fred A. Reed
How convenient. Erase everything that doesn't fit the plastic see through image of modern "greek" society in hopes of trying to create a fake world of Periclean Philhellene fantasies. How disgusting. Removing Cyrilic writing from tombstones and destroying entire Macedonian cemetaries is by far worse than what is written above.
