New naming of streets in RoMacedonia

This topic was unintentionally touched by our former bulgarophil member who is now gone after the swift reaction of the admins (amen to that).As you all probably know a decision for renaming some of the streets in the republic passed a couple of days or so ago in our parliament.I would like to know your thoughts on this matter.

I'll go first ().
In my hometown of Stip there are streets named John Kennedy,Ho Chi Min,5th Congress (of KPY of course),Karl Marx,Engelsova (after Friedrich Engels ),Leninova,boulevard YNA etc.I think these streets SHOULD be renamed.After all,what did Kennedy,Marx,Engels or the Vietnamese guy ever do for Macedonia?They don't deserve our streets to be named after them.And all the party congresses are completely unnecessary too.So,thumbs up for that.

However,I really disagree with renaming the streets baring the names of the national heroes of WWII just because they were partisans (and subsequently commies).Those people FOUGHT for the liberation of Macedonia from the Bulgarian/German/Albanian fascists and I think they deserve recognition for that.Also,I know the feelings of some members about Josip Broz (him being a commie and oppressor and locking up the Macedonian "separatists" and all that) ,but I'd like to stress out that he was the only Yugoslav politician that recognized the separate identity,language and culture of our people (even codifying the Macedonian alphabet and standardizing the Macedonian language)and by allowing the forming of PR (later SR) Macedonia within Yugoslavia he actually laid the foundation of the September 8th 1991 event for our people and therefore is an important character in our history.

There are many people,organizations etc. that deserve to have a street named after them.For Stip specifically,Kiro Gligorov (yes,he's the guy to blame for the FYROM reference and all the "we are Slavs" BS,but have in mind he was the first ever president of independent Macedonia and comes from Stip) is one of them,also Nikola Kljusev (yes,a DPMNE member and follower,but the first ever prime minister of independent Macedonia,also from Stip),even the poor 5-6 members of the army/police forces that were killed during the 2001 conflict should get the street that they lived on at least to be named after them.Maybe even the old names of Stip (Estipeon,Astibo) are a good example too.

What are YOUR thoughts about the new street names?

I just read about a street in Skopje (where the Foreign Ministry is located) to be renamed from "Stiv Naumov" to "Phillip II Macedonian st".

"The entire official foreign mail (thousands of correspondence letters) that arrive to Macedonia from foreign Governments will be addressed to Phillip II Macedonian. Same applies to outgoing mail. For instance, if Athens wants to send an official letter to Macedonia, it will have to go to Phillip II Macedonian, otherwise it goes back to Athens".

Regarding the name Stiv Naumov.... according to this report, Skopje's local government is simply removing "Stiv Naumov" from the current street where the Foreign Ministry is located and naming another much larger street in the downtown area.

Greek Officials meet in secret with SDSM, over a street name

For two days opposition party SDSM has attempted to create some sort of 'crisis', tried to forcefully enter the city of Skopje offices because as they claim the city has decided to rename a street of a famous Macedonian WW2 hero Stevan (Stiv) Naumov.

The truth is Skopje's local government is simply removing "Stiv Naumov" from the current street where the Foreign Ministry is located and naming another much larger street in the downtown area to bear the name "Stiv Naumov" as he surely deserves.

So why is SDSM hysterically protesting, carrying photos of Stiv Naumov and falsely claiming his street name was removed when in fact he is getting much larger avenue to bear his name?

Ah yes, here is where it gets interesting.

The old Stiv Naumov street where the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs building is located will get a new name... Phillip II Macedonian.

What does this mean? The entire official foreign mail (thousands of correspondence letters) that arrive to Macedonia from foreign Governments will be addressed to Phillip II Macedonian. Same applies to outgoing mail. For instance, if Athens wants to send an official letter to Macedonia, it will have to go to Phillip II Macedonian, otherwise it goes back to Athens.

This means the hysterical and sudden protests organized by SDSM have nothing to do with Stiv Naumov, rather they are against Phillip II Macedonian!

Skopje residents were surprised by the drama and effort SDSM leadership put into creating tensions over a street. No one had good enough explanation why would the opposition resort to violence (broke windows at city's offices)!

Thanks to a source within the SDSM, it was admitted that "Stiv Naumov" had nothing to do with the protest, rather it was the renaming of the MoFA address to Phillip II Macedonian which sparked the protest ordered by Athens.


In fact, Athens was so pained by the change, Greek officials secretly met with SDSM officials in Skopje. Greek officials complained the Gruevski Government has dealt a severe blow to the Greek Government at home and have expressed their sensitivity that the entire world would be corresponding with Macedonia by mailing everything to "Phillip II Macedonian" since the entire diplomatic mail goes through MoFA.

During the past two months, our source says SDSM officials have met on six different occasions with Greek officials. Main discussions were the positions on the so called process of 'antiquization' which our readers remember was a term coined by the SDSM which Athens utilizes it to attack and or ruin Macedonia image abroad. Other discussions on the name issue included SDSM positions on the 'name dispute'.

Interestingly enough, just in the last month, both SDSM coalition partners Tito Petkovski and Bulgarian born adoptee Ljubco Georgievski said they were accepting Greece's positions on the name change mentioning "North or Upper Macedonia". SDSM did not have an official reaction on this supposed "coincidence", because it wasn't one.

Macedonian analysts believe this 'test balloons' are sent by the SDSM and are aimed at Greece and the international community: help us get back to power, and we will solve the name issue right away (read: change the name).

Gligorov's memoires clearly stated SDSM officials have developed very close ties with Greek structures which resulted in SDSM officials receiving $50,000-$150,000 watches, holiday apartments in Greece, cash... Gligorov said he was offered priceless artifacts, 4,000 year old anfora etc.

Our source says Greek officials had instructed the SDSM to do everything in their power to stop such vital location be named into Phillip II Macedonian. This is against a strategy developed by Evangelos Kofos who had stated everything related to Macedonia must be erased. Antonis Samaras, the creator of the 'name dispute' has already stated no money or resources will be spared to achieve this objective.

The protest by SDSM had nothing to do with Stiv Naumov or his life since he is getting a much bigger street, it was always about Phillip II Macedonian. The SDSM is simply following orders.

Which is why for Gruevski remaining PM is like a walk in the park and he does not have to do jack shit for our people, our race, our nation while the main opposition keeps on shooting him self in the foot.

Could you imagine PASOK acting like SDSM and what the outcome for that party would be?
