Sofia. “Macedonia is categorically heading at federalisation, confederalisation and division,” said Krasimir Uzunov, director of FOCUS News Agency, in an interview with The Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), in a commentary on the tension in Skopje after the murder of five fishermen.

In Uzunov’s words, the cantons were established after the war in 2001.
“The Albanian partisans imposed an ethic cleansing in the mountains to the North of Tetovo, especially Shar Planina. In the villages, where churches were set on fire, there are few people, who want to live,” Uzunov remarked.

“In 10-15 years perspective, there is ethnic population. There is a number of Albanian youths, aged under 18, who are the predominant population in many regions. The Albanian population is not only in West Macedonia. If we go back to the “Ethnography of Macedonia” by Vasil Kanchov and put it over the modern map of Macedonia, the difference is stunning,” he commented further.

“Speaking of Macedonia, outside and disregarding whether there are some external influence, whether someone is seeking dividend for internal use, to show oneself as hard leader, to achieve an electoral victory to the north of Macedonia – it is about something else, too.

Inside Macedonia there are some rooted problems between the Albanians and Macedonians. No matter what seed is planted – outside or inside – to inspire such a thing, it will always sprout. Ten years and a half after the Ohrid Agreement, almost 11, the agreement has become too narrow. Some things were not realised at all. We remember the multi-ethnic patrols, which were supposed to patrol in mixed villages, the percentages that the Albanians were supposed to have in the intelligence and counterintelligence and the management of the army. Some were not realised, other were not launched at all, while third were partially realised,” Krasimir Uzunov said.

The unrecognised Republic of Ilirida, with prime minister in the person of Nevzat Halili, has decided on April 9, 2012 in Tetovo to ask for division of Macedonia into two confederations, Macedonian online news edition PlusInfo reported.

“The Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia should immediately start establishing a union with Ilirida and Macedonia should recognise the legal right of Ilirida to establish juridical and democratic institutions, as a manifestation of the political will of the Albanians expressed in 1992. This referendum outlined the wish for the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia to stop functioning as a unitary state and use the model set by Serbia and Montenegro,” says the statement of the self-declared Republic of Ilirida.

In 1992 Nevzat Halili organised a referendum among the Albanians in Macedonia for the establishment of the Autonomous Republic of Ilirida. 99% of the Albanians, who took part in the referendum, backed the idea.
Halili has been included in the ‘black lists’ of the USA and the EU since 2003.

Albanian anger has also erupted by the addition of Macedonian Albanian politician Nevzat Halili to the US government’s terrorist blacklist. This was from few yars back. It is all political and people like Halili are just pawns in the grand scheme of things. Menduh Thaci is also on the list so I pay no attention to what he has to say anymore. They have lost all the political power to DUI and are basically trying to say something extreme to feel like they are still relevant.

No, currently in Canada.

I was in Macedonia this past summer and it seems like every single incident is politically motivated. Not only with the Albanians but also with us. Some of my relatives and regular Macedonians I spoke to are really frustrated with our government as a whole. You need all kinds of connections to get anything accomplished. Took me weeks to get a few documents completed and that was with my cousin knowing someone in Struga where I had to get a new birth certificate. Basically if you don't have "vrski" it is tough to get anything done on time. Don't get me started about how the Albanians have abused their "minority rights", I saw first hand in Struga and Skopje how it works. Many of them fought against our country and are now getting disability benefits while our own people in the same situation have to get by with 5,000 to 8,000 denari a month. I could understand the system if it worked the same for both sides but it seems like it is much easier being Albanian than it is to be Macedonian in Macedonia. But, I guess this will continue to happen with the type of leadership we have running our country for the past 20 years.

welcome aboard kire.Also you are spot on with the analysis of the albanian issue.Just to let you know i had similar issues of my birth certificate where they stuffed me up i had to go back again & gain & they made up bs stories of how we are from overseas & how we should pay more money.Lucky one of the relatives knew the nacalnik in bitola.The whole thing was about how my father & mother are both "ski & ska" ending & my name was ending in "of".Required taxani marki & court attendance to fix up someone elses error.Oh by the way they stuffed up the spelling by substituting f for v so lucky we checked & yes we had to pay again to get that fixed.We noticed if you had friends in high places you can get a passport in 2 days or sooner.
THere are so many inequities of the albanian issue especially the macedonian govt doesn't even want to mention the 2001 war,it's far easier to just give in to the albanians.Yes capitulating & compromising doesn't that sound familiar!.So the albanians appear as some sort oh heroes with pensions etc.Makes a mockery of the whole thing.

shiptars get benefits they don't deserve - i agree
bureaucracy - not great, but MUCH improved, and headed in the right direction. The last few documents and ID I had to receive was the easiest process I've ever had in Macedonia. Moving the MVR passport office to the MRTV building in Skopje was the best thing they ever did. Now if they only sent the ID cart (лична карта) office there as well!
