    Flag of Socialist Macedonia

Starting this thread to find out why the flag of Socialist Macedonia did not posses any actual Macedonian symbolism unlike the other republics which at least had their "national" colours. Any information should be posted under this thread.
I know of two tragic histories in the world- that of Ireland, and that of Macedonia. Both of them have been deprived and tormented.

I believe no one can tell with certainty, but in my opinion the communists saw the Macedonian lion as a symbol of monarchy and refused to use it, and since the Kutlesh Star hadn't been discovered yet, they decided to put the party flag as the country flag. Anyone has another theory?

I've read in these forums that when Greece discovered the star in the 1970's they had no idea what is was but that the star had been appearing in Macedonia for centuries and that the Republic knew about it and what it meant. Supposedly there was a VMRO banner with so not sure if that's the reason the star wasn't used.

Any idea if a different flag was used for the proclamation of a Macedonian republic in 1944? Is it possible that the flag that we ended up with was only introduced later when the state was reorganised into a socialist republic of the Yugoslav federation?

This site claims that a plain-red flag was hoisted over liberated Krusevo in 1903 and that's why the flag of Socialist Macedonia was plain red (with the inclusion of the Socialist star)

Red has been at Macedonian national colour for centuries (if you look at old coats of arms), it just so happened that communists also chose it as a representative colour.

My original intention with this thread was to look into why our flag did not contain any symbolism like other republics had.

FYI - the Bosnian flag also did not contain any national and/or ethnic symbolism in its flag. The flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina was basically (communist) red, with a small Yugoslav flag in the upper left corner.

Probably due to the ethnic complexity of the state
