While the police operation against an armed group in a south-western part of Kumanovo is still on-going, and sporadic gun shots can be heard, MIA correspondent from Kumanovo reports that citizens are leaving the area.

Kumanovo municipal authorities announced they will give full support to the people who have to leave their homes due to the fighting. Access to the Tode Mendol area of the city is blocked for anybody, except for police and emergency response vehicles. Civilians living in this largely ethnic Albanian part of the city are allowed to leave, and many are seen doing that.

Interior Ministry informed that special police forces acted against a well armed terror group, which was shelted in this part of the city, and that they were met with strong resistance from different types of weapons. The narrow streets and densely packed homes mean that the police is conducting tactical house searches, which the Interior Ministry informed, are done with utmost care.

In the remainder of the city traffic continues as normal, under a heightened police presence. The near-by highway that connects Kumanovo to Skopje, the main airport and the border crossing with Serbia, is also open for traffic.
