Onur, The reality is that Turkey and Greece are Nato members, the fact that Turkey is spending 3% of its GDP on Defense is actually a Nato requirement however Greece spending twice as much is good for Nato itself but terrible for Greece and its people.

Whats the point in being in Nato in the first place if security is in question? Both Greece and Turkey have been members of Nato for over 40 years so there is no reason why Greece should go bankrupt over an arms race, they should think about serving the people who live there and give them a better life,education,health care etc

I don't know why they spend money on army when in fact European countries have always been a threat to Europe. When has a middle eastern or asian country invaded Europe?

A month ago on 60 minutes they kept saying "Australia might be preparing for war with China". They spend so much money on training and weapons and fool the world that China is a threat. China's economy is going getting stronger and the last thing they want is war.

It's the same for greeks they get brainwashed by the government and think that "Turkey will invade us and take our lands" but the last thing Turkey wants is a war when the economy is getting stronger.

The majority of wars in Europe were/and are always started by European countries. So there's no need for the leftist politicians to brainwash people that Islamic countries or China are going to invade us.

You have a point on this.

I dont think Greece is buying weapons just for the defensive purposes. I think they buy it for hostile purposes too since they do military practices to invade whole Cyprus while Turkey never did such a thing towards Greek territories.

In fact, Turkey didn't gain any territory since 19th century and we never had expansive ideas since then. On the other hand, Greece occupied many territories and islands, several times since her creation and they had a dream of creating Hellenic Empire identified by their "Megali idea". They tried to accomplish Enosis(union) with Cyprus at 1974 while Turkey never had such an intention. Even today, you can find many people in Greece who dreams about occupying Istanbul and Aegean Anatolia, whole Macedonia or maybe even some parts of Albania.

So, who has expansive ideas now? Greece or Turkey?

What? You talk about Turkish expansion at 14-15th century??? OR the campaign of Ghengis Khan of Mongols at 13th century?

There is alot of scare mongering going on in pictures such as this, and in these kinds of comments.

The New Greeks are looking to bring about the political extinction of the Macedonian Republic, there is no doubt about that.

But that outcome will never realistically come about through another siezure of territory, by military force.

The New Greeks will never invade it, and they simply cannot invade it and expect to 'win' without the approval of all of Macedonia's neighbours, of NATO, of Turkey (especially) and others in the region. There is no doubt that there are forces trying to destabilise it, and the Albanians, are certainly a military threat (on the inside).

But the critical threat to our political extinction comes from the 'negotaitions' which judging by the comments made by Gruevski are driving the Macedonian leadership towards 'a vote' of some sort. For mine is the single biggest threat facing us. The way the 'negotiations' are going I am certain that our enemies will give the Macedonian people (of whom about 20% are hostile Albanians), the opportunity (at least one opportunity) to put the question of the political extinction, to a vote.
