![]() Recently read up in on the Balli Kombėtar and their role in western Macedonia during WWII. My reading was brief and mainly mentioned massacres committed against Macedonians how that Tetovo became their base of operations for launching attacks in Macedonia, as well as Kosovo.
Starting this thread for any relevant information and discussion in regards to the Balli Kombėtar and their activities in Macedonia. |

![]() That seems naive to even assume. If the Ballists attacked Serbs in Kosovo, is it then not fair to even assume they attacked Macedonians in Macedonia? The correct answer is that they did by the way, they did attack Macedonians.

![]() The BK was active against the Italian presence in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia which now roughly corresponds to their idea of "Greater Albania". In 1943 when the Germans took over they became allies of the Nazis and some were conscripted to the SS Skanderbeg, maybe because the Germans promised them the realisation of their goal.

![]() - The Ballists in Kosovo and Western Macedonia rose to prominence following the capitulation of Italy in September 1943. They seized Struga and Debar from the Italians on 9 September 1943, taking much of the military equipment left behind.
- Xhafer Deva, a leading Ballist from Kosovo, was appointed Minister of the Interior in the Government of Rexhep Mitrovica and collaborated with the Germans to oppose the spread of Communist forces in the north. - After World War II ended, the Balli Kombėtar were defeated by Yugoslav and Albanian communists. The Ballists were so thoroughly discredited by their collaboration with the Nazis that there was no chance of them having a role in postwar Albania, though it took until 1945 to finish them off. Ironically, the Ballists' decision to work with the Nazis brought about the one thing they had sought to prevent – a Communist-dominated government. Balli Kombėtar fighters fled the Balkans to Austria, the United States, Australia, Switzerland and South America. The Ballists who did not escape were executed. An organization was set up in exile. - "Balli Kombetar, however, preferred German rule to Italian and, believing that only the Germans would allow Kosovo to remain Albanian after the war, began to collaborate." Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balli_Komb%C3%ABtar Massacre in Belichica: mass murder committed by the Ballists against the Macedonian population from the village of Belichica on September 19, 1944. In fighting with the Ballists, 19 Partisans from the Third Tetovo Squad died. After the end of the battle with the partisans, the Ballists killed 17 women, children and elders from the village, and then burned the whole village to the ground. Four partisans were captured, two of which were shot in Tetovo two days later, on September 21. After the war, a monument was built in Trnitsa dedicated to the killed partisans and inhabitants of the village of Belichica in this massacre. ![]() Link: https://mk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C...B8%D1%86%D0%B0 Lest we forget Загинати партизани во Беличица Тодор Циповски - Мерџан (роден 1920 во Тетово) Ѓоце Стојчевски - Амбарче (роден 1920 во Тетово) Христо Антески (роден 1925 во с. ![]() Tchaiku, read Carlin's post and that will show that Ballists indeed did attack Macedonians, not sure why anyone would believe they only attacked Serbs.
