Yes the Yugoslavs used that narrative to further their ideologies but that doesn't mean it wasn't mostly true. The leftist revolutionaries weren't communists, but they were leftists.

I'd be happy to hear about the prominent rightist Macedonian revolutionaries if you two would care to share?

Personally I just simply dislike attempting to group Macedonian revolutionary figures into a "left-right" divide, I do not believe that concept can accurately be applied in our situation.

If I absolutely had to identify some Macedonian historical figures as "right-wing", then I would claim the following: Hristo Tatarčev, Boris Sarafov, Todor Aleksandrov, Petar Čaulev, Aleksandar Protogerov, etc. I could also include some later figures such as Gerasim Todorov, Krum Monev, and Dragan Bogdanovski.

This is all of course up for debate because I do not believe you can apply these irrelevant labels to such figures with full confidence, but these figures I personally believe cannot be portrayed as "left-wing".
I know of two tragic histories in the world- that of Ireland, and that of Macedonia. Both of them have been deprived and tormented.

I understand the sentiment and I mostly agree though half of the people you named are known traitors despite modern efforts to glorify some "right wing" characters, just read what their contemporaries had to say about them.

I honestly can't think of a non contravercial right leaning revolutionary.

In relation to the left-right paradigm associated with our ancestors from the revolutionary period, what type of positions characterised as 'left' at the time were rejected by those on the 'right'?
To try and answer the original question more directly the reasons that it seems only Macedonian "conservatives" are against the name change is because of a very loose definition of the label and because we consider those who are anti SDS pro DPMNE as conservatives.
A substantial portion of SDS voters are also socially conservative. The point I was making is that those against a name change are likely to be conservative, not that all conservatives are against a name change. You haven't really answered my question about the social progressives in Macedonia who are against a name change.
All I can say is I don't believe they are mutually exclusive.
Social progressives in the modern era harbour some very radical views. I struggle to see how nationalism and opposition to the name change fits within their ideology. If your belief is that they aren't mutually exclusive, should it be that difficult to reinforce it with some examples?
In relation to this and the reply directly above I would caution on trying to apply strict labels to everything. The nationalist vs not nationalist argument above is a perfect example, it all depends what you consider the label nationalist to entail.
No, I don't agree with that. Hyperbole aside, the concept of nationalism hasn't changed much over the years, despite Apasiev's refusal to acknowledge his own statements as such. On the other hand, the concept of being on the left side of the political spectrum (and all that it entails today) has changed dramatically, which is why I cautioned against comparing Macedonian revolutionaries or communists with modern progressives.
We can chose to say they are not conservative and therefore not nationalist or we can just take those positions at face value and ignore the noise.
Call me pessimistic, but I can't ignore potential points of contention merely because some of what they say makes sense. I'd much rather make a holistic assessment than compartmentalise certain issues which may come into conflict at some point, because such an approach can be useful in determining their priorities.
The leftist revolutionaries weren't communists, but they were leftists. I'd be happy to hear about the prominent rightist Macedonian revolutionaries if you two would care to share?
Earlier, you indicated that those who weren't leftists were traitors. Your follow up comment (quoted above) suggests that those who weren't leftists must have been on the right. It has been a while since I read about revolutionaries such as Aleksandar Turundzhev, Georgi Sugarev and Jordan Piperkata, so I could be wrong, but is there any evidence to suggest that they were affiliated with the socialist movement in the same manner as, for example, Nikola Karev? If not, would you consider those three individuals to be traitors?
I understand the sentiment and I mostly agree though half of the people you named are known traitors.....
Which of them are traitors and why do you designate them as such?

I will also just echo SoM's question on which figures I listed you consider to be treacherous?

Канал 5 Телевизија interview with Dimitar Apasiev from July 24, 2020.

              Part 1:

              Part 2:

I believe this article is a reaction to the above interview:

When the socialist leftist is one of the few politicians in Macedonia making sense when it comes to the debacle with Bulgaria.......
                https://shilomagazine.com.au/2021/06...2%d0%be%d1%80/

Made more sense than anyone else purporting to be a politician in Macedonia.

Well, far be it from me to be excited about a politician who espouses leftist views. But, lo and behold, this guy seems to be quite a dynamic and refreshing presence in the political landscape of Macedonia.

He identified the "loserski mentalitet" quite succinctly in the above link.

Apasiev is a strange one: blends Marxist rhetoric with oddly patriotic nationalism. I have seen some critics attempt to label him a national bolshevist.
I know of two tragic histories in the world- that of Ireland, and that of Macedonia. Both of them have been deprived and tormented.

You want Macedonia? Come and take it from my blood!

A prosperous, independent and free Macedonia for Macedonians will be the ultimate revenge to our enemies.
