In February, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia became North Macedonia, ending a decades-long dispute with neighbouring Greece. Citizens of the rebranded country hoped that membership of NATO and talks to join the EU would follow. They were also looking for wide-ranging reforms to reduce corruption and improve prosperity.
