I never would have thought that Next Time would have been able to top their previous work of Ja Izlezi Gjurgjo. However this new one is a remake of the song Slusham Kaj Sumat Sumite and it is just as good, if not better! Enjoy this masterpiece!

Why have I only just come across this version of the famous old song "Teshko Mina Doktore"? This version is sung by, what I believe is Vojo Stojanovski's son, Damjan Stojanovski. Clearly, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Incidentally, I just found out that Vlatko Miladonovski happens to also be Vojo's nephew. What an amazingly talented family they are. The 1st version below is the official version and the other two are a couple of live versions that are really worth watching -one at a concert and the other at some village festival.

I have to admit I’ve been listening to A LOT of Macedonian music recently. Bizarrely it has only increased since both governments have passed the name change. Zurli and tapani. Mood music. Alcohol. It’s a roller coaster being Macedonian.

I know this type of music isn't narodna or patriotska, but honestly Lozano is one of, if not the best Macedonian singers at the current moment. His style is very modern and popular. His past stuff has been really good and his more recent stuff is on another level!

This video clip of Next Time's latest creation was uploaded only 10 hours ago and it already has close to 40,000 hits. It is a remake (in typical Next Time style) of the famous song dedicated to Todor Alexandrov, "Neshto Ke Te Pitam Babo."

I just watched it again Risto and the only flag I could see is the old red and black VMRO flag which is meant to symbolise VMRO's sacred oath - Liberty or Death, which I think is appropriate for the period they are portraying. My first thought was why isn't he holding the 16-ray Macedonian sun but, in the context of what they're trying to portray, I think the VMRO flag was the right choice.

Good rendition. But there are songs about less controversial historical figures that they could be remaking.

It brought a tear to my eye hearing the lyrics and thinking about what Macedonians had went through, how many sacrificed themselves just so there could be a Macedonia. Then I am overwhelmed with disgust when I think about how we gave our identity away without a whimper.

All those poor souls gave their young lives for nothing. It's god damn shameful what has become of us, just disgusting.

Anyway the song is good, of late it seems there is a revisiting of Aleksandrov's legacy and many are coming to a very different understanding of who he was.

This type of thing has been severely lacking in Macedonia. Growing up the tales of the Vojvodi were just stories I was told by my father. It was never ingrained in our education, TV, movies, and music. There was always this tepid relationship between the official state and these figures. They were never glorified to the level they deserved, which is an absolute shame.

That is a basic way to build nationalism is to give the people something and someone to be proud of. To remind them that their nation was not won without sacrifice. That many people died for something bigger than themselves and that is why they should live on and be glorified.

Just another missed opportunity I suppose.

Its nice to see interest in classics being reapproached in different styles and themes, but to be honest, I can't say I'm personally a big fan of the Bollywood style makeovers this group has been producing. The only one I'd say I think they did a half decent job so far on is Ja Izlezi Gjurgjo.
“There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can’t take part, you can’t even passively take part, and you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you’ve got to make it stop, and you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all” - Mario Savio
