    Macedonian F1

I saw on TV Ivanov in Italy meeting the FIA boses. This would be some grand achievement, frankly I cant see a Investment of that kind happening in Macedonia any time soon.

But Imagine the Macedonian F1 a regular part of the Formula 1 season
    anyone know more

I believe the conservative estimate of holding the F1 race in Melbourne is in the order of $A50 million and sources put the European cost at a similar value (20 million Euros), that's a huge committment and amount of money for Macedonia to put up over the term of an F1 contract.

Never heard of it, and guarantee you it will not happen in the next 80 years at least.

I know the 'racing scene' in Macedonia fairly well, and I can tell you that we can barely organize a skopje-circuit or kicevo-track race on an annual basis. Something in F1 territory is out of our league to put it very mildly, both financially and in terms of organization.

Maybe a race track that crosses the border between Macedonia and Kosovo.
The drug mules can race around dropping off "parcels" to the other side of the border. It make the plan more feasible.

20 million Euros is alot to spend at once, but to make money you need to spend it. With an event like the F1, I am sure you would make that money back straight away. If this was to happen, could you imagine the benefits for Macedonia. It would have a huge boost in the Macedonian economy. The tourism industry would reach extraordinary heights and local business, for example restaurants would benefit as well.

It would be awesome to see this happen in Macedonia. It would put Macedonia on the map.

I think Melbourne struggles to return a profit from the race itself (ticket sales, sponsorship etc) and the inconvenience of hosting a 'street' race but the organizers and the State Government argue the benefits are less tangible, the international publicity Melbourne attracts is very difficult to quantify and then there's the status of hosting major events that is quite enviable to non host cities and countries.

Melbourne's disadvantage is her timezone from anywhere - the TV station get more viewers live viewing in more sociable times hence more advertising revenue hence they shell out bigger bucks - while Macedonia would not have this problem, although I would be very surprise if it did happen.

                That's not the case Brian...

Melbourne can beam into the huge (and ever growing) Asian market with a timezone difference of no more than a couple of hours, whilst for the European market the race is shown early Sunday morning...

The Melbourne Grand Prix has suffered a deficit for a number of years now. It's a point of discussion every year whether the state government should scrap it or keep the tradition. I think it has become exactly that, a tradition, as opposed to a source of revenue for the government.

It could benefit Macedonia and place the nation in the racing spotlight, but I just don't see it happening at this stage.

When the Victorians pulled off the major coup of stealing the Grand Prix from Adelaide, there was an initial kneejerk reaction of bitterness and disappointment from the Adelaidians...........soon replaced by the sobering and comforting thought of not having to fork out millions every year to stage the event, for an annual net loss.
Macedonia can ill afford a luxury such as this, perhaps down the track it may work but there are far greater priorities for the government to concern themselves with.

There's no money to be made on an F1 race for nation's economies that's for sure!

The only benefit is hotels and restaurants. As mentioned, the cost of closing streets far exceeds the benefits, and then there's the cleanup afterwards, so much headache.

Good points. It wouldn't phase me at all if the Grand Prix were to suddenly disappeared. It's one of those events you go to a few times, then you've been there and done that.
