Masks of Imathia: A Macedonian Tradition

Was talking to my Aunt in Macedonia and she had these old masks on her wall she was saying were Imathia. Now are these the masks that Macedonians were forbidden in the past to wear from greek hyprocasy like the video someone posted from the greek olympics?

Looked for information on here but couldn't find anything.

Maybe start a thread about this history of our culture.

Makedonetz, those masks of Imathia that you speak of are a Macedonian tradition from Aegean Macedonia, near Solun.
I doubt the Macedonians of the Republic of Macedonia have any connection to this mask tradition.

There are some striking similarities with the (much older) Vevcani carnival.

Rogi, i believe that the Vevcani festival is more of a weird halloween dress up rather then Imathia masks.
None the less you do still see some Imathia type masks at the Vevcani festival.

I don't think it means anything, it's just for a muck around.

Vevcani Carnival ... notes Greece's passing
                Friday, 13 January 2012

Vevcani is one of Europe's oldest carnival spanning 1,400 years. It's a carnival of irony, mocking people, companies, organizations, countries... both internal and external.

One of this year's victims was Greece for obvious reasons. The people of Vevcani paraded a coffin wrapped with a Greek flag (slightly on fire), marking the 181 year of existence, from birth to death.

The ironic pamphlet informing citizens of Greece's passing states:
                Good News
Suddenly, after a prolonged agitation we are left without our dear neighbor, the former Turkish province of (Hell-ass) (Greece, Hellas, Ellada, Yunanistan or whatever they call themselves). They were 181 years old.

Born 1830 (London Protocol) - Died 2011 (Hague)

The information pamphlet marked the family who mourns the passing of Greece: The list includes: "EU, USA, Russia, Serbia, Egypt, Chatzirmakakis, Borjan Jovanovski, Vladimir Milcin, Branko Gerovski, Biljana Sekulovska and the rest ..."
The list includes names of Macedonian 'journalists' bribed by Athens.

                  Hey Bill
This was fantastic reading! I loved the irony of it! hahahahahah!!!!!!!!!
On Delchev's sarcophagus you can read the following inscription: "We swear the future generations to bury these sacred bones in the capital of Independent Macedonia. August 1923 Illinden"

Is the 2011 Hague 'death' in reference to the ICJ case?
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.

I'm assuming thats what they meant mate. They don't understand that it could be the death of us aswell, But if we overlook their ignorance for a moment, its good that they are starting to show signs of anger and disgust with their neighbour. I will never forget the question i was asked the last time i was in Macedonia.
"why do you in the diaspora hate Greeks so much? we get along just fine"
It was intended to make out as we are nut cases.

sega mu zezi and they might understand why we had anger towards Greeks all this time.

Here is another picture. Ideally, if that ventilator was burning aswell, would have topped it off. Mabe one day these citizens will eventually also wake up to why we in the diaspora are against that flag.
