Hard to get anything back, especially from the abovementioned pack of thieves.

One must wonder how many documents there are out there that have been stolen from Macedonian churches and monastaries, not only in the 19th/20th centuries but even during the Medieval period, where thousands of texts were either stolen or destroyed by Greek-speaking priests.
And now these thieves are telling the Macedonians that they cannot get back what was taken from the cultural institutions of their land because Macedonia was not yet formed as a state at the time of theft? Well, let us take a look at the below example with regard to Greece's passionate attempt to regain 'her' marbles from the British:
http://www.britishmuseum.org/the_museum/news_and_press_releases/statements/the_parthenon_sculptures.aspx
By 1800 only about half of the original sculptural decoration remained. Between 1801 and 1805 Lord Elgin, the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire of which Athens had been a part for some 350 years, acting with the full knowledge and permission of the Ottoman authorities, removed about half of the remaining sculptures from the fallen ruins and from the building itself. Lord Elgin was passionate about ancient Greek culture and transported the sculptures back to Britain. The arrival of the sculptures in London had a profound effect on the European public, regenerating interest in ancient Greek culture and influencing contemporary artistic trends.
These sculptures were acquired from Lord Elgin by the British Museum in 1816 following a Parliamentary Select Committee enquiry which fully investigated and approved the legality of Lord Elgin’s actions. Since then the sculptures have all been on display to the public in the British Museum, free of entry charge.
Modern Greece was not yet formed as a state at the time, so what makes their claims any stronger than ours? Nothing at all. Greece should in fact be greatful that Lord Elgin revealed 'their' marbles to the British officials, scholars and the public, as it helped in promoting an interest in ancient culture which would be the attitude tied with the Anglo-German Philhellenes on their way to rescue to yet to be made 'nation of Hellenes'.
