Over 8.000 Macedonians move to reclaim property in Greece

Greece will face more than 8.000 petitions by Aegean Macedonians seeking to reclaim their ancestral property, Ethnos daily said on Monday.
The same source said the estimated value of real estate of Macedonians whose Greek citizenship has been revoked is set at dozens billions of euros.
A group of 500 Aegean Macedonians have already assessed their property near the town of Thessaloniki at 1 billion euros. Other former owner, who also filed a request to Maced9onian Commission, demands 176 million euro compensation from Greece for real estate in Thessaloniki that had been owned by his grandfather, Ethnos daily said.
The paper said the property restitution procedure, led by Macedonian authorities and special panel, is ongoing. A team of jurists has been tasked to wrap up the paperwork and to submit the petitions to Greek courts and to the European Court.
The applicants are expected to fill special form entitled "Immovable assets and other demands" and submit them to the Macedonian authorities. Two questions in the form are quite interesting - the first referring to "conditions in which the property was taken", and secondly, the applicants are asked to write the name of the current owner of the real estate, where "Greek state" is mentioned as an option.
Ethnos daily labels the questions in the form "comical" given that the applicant needs to state whether his house had stove, whether the former owner had cattle, how much kilograms of corn the former owner had lost when his asset was taken away.
