Dutch-Macedonian tour operator "Karatanov Tours" is set to attract Dutch tourists in Macedonia with direct charter flights from Amsterdam to Skopje and Ohrid, operated by "Transavia", daughter-company of Netherlands national airline "KLM".
The objective of the operator, owned by Strumica-born Vasko Kocinov, who has worked in the Netherlands for 19 years, is to secure the visit of 40,000 Dutch tourists toMacedonia, a number characteristic for the 1980s.
"The charter flight is of historic significance for tourism development in Macedonia. If the route is profitable, KLM plans to introduce direct flight Amsterdam-Skopje, thus linking Macedonia to the transit-capital of the world", said Kocinov at Monday's press conference.
Economy Minister Fatmir Besimi welcomed Dutch tour operators to Macedonia, saying the goal was to bring back Dutch tourists to the country, something which required lots of work.
"Macedonia offers nature, cultural richness and quality cuisine. These are the three benefits that must be used, in order to promote our values in the most suitable way, making us unique in the region", added Minister Besimi.
According to him, one of the reasons for tourism development in Macedonia are the subsidies offered to tour operators for bringing foreign tourists to the country.
"Such subsidies will also be provided to Dutch tour operators", stressed Besimi.
Dutch ambassador to Macedonia Simone Filippini said journalists and tour operators from he Netherlands are paying a three-day visit to Macedonia, acquainting with the tourism potentials, natural beauties and holiday opportunities.
"One of the reasons why the Dutch visit Macedonia is the monument of Dutch author A den Doolaard in Ohrid. He lived and wrote about the town, which fascinates people from the Netherlands", underlined ambassador Filippini.
